Perhaps I'm naive, but Gantt can go to hell

Say what you want about Gantt, but he asks the questions we fans want to know. Also, as said before, a sports beat writer should not be fans of the teams they cover. That way their articles are not biased or one-sided.

OK. If Gantt's job is to cover the Panthers---ownership, management, players, other nonessential personnel, and others (e.g, story about fans or whatever), then how is his story going to be "biased or one-sided" just because he cares whether or not the team wins or loses? Every team in the NFL has writers that basically covers them exclusively (notwithstanding some cursory information about other teams). By nature, Gantt's articles are biased or one-sided because he mainly writes about the Panthers.

This isn't David Glenn we are talking about. Glenn covers the whole of the ACC, this is Gantt who covers the Panthers. Now someone tell me how him caring whether the team wins or loses is making his stories any more "biased or one-sided" than they already are.

What you people fail to realize is that the way you present facts can be subjective. So do not assume the presentation of facts = objectivity. After working at the Observer, I have heard conversations and discussed this topic at length with David Poole one evening. EXAMPLE: There was an article about Jesse Helms, and the news reporters (I worked in sports) were selecting a picture and a headline. They selected a picture with a stupid facial expression (they discussed this) because they hated Helms. The headline was worded accurately in relation to facts, but they crafted the phrasing to give it a witty, double meaning that reflected their views.

Gantt is not objective. There is no way you get to know the team like he does and not have a vested interest in their success. If you read carefully, you will see his feelings.
