Before Suh, the last DT drafted in top 5 to make a Pro Bowl was Sean Gilbert in '92

Roy Williams has taken a back seat to a rookie and looks better in Dallas, but no world beater. Where is Charles Rodgers?

FYI, just saying fail without a rebuttle is a fail unto itself.

Mike Williams had to get all kinds of second chances before becoming somewhat decent.

yes because no argument commands a respectable rebuttal more than this

Detroit had two or three alone!!!

Not Fairley. I'd look at the other leading candidates and see how they do at the combine and take it from there. But I've seen Fairley more than any of the other candidates besides Cam Newton and I know he's not the guy to take at #1.

I watched a total of 7 Auburn games this season....and I was very impressed with Fairley in every one of them. He continuously made plays and was a disruptive force on defense.

for those pimping peterson...there has NEVER been a CB taken first overall.

it's pretty rare them getting taken in the top 5 at all...

only 2 of those guys went to multiple probowls and only woodson showed to be really worth that pick and ended up being the best of his class. the year newman was drafted there were 5 CBs taken in the first round...the last one of those guys is asomugha.

All we have proven in this thread is that picking in the draft is a crap shoot....no matter what position you look at.

yep. not really any positions are safe except Oline and that is probably the worst part of this class.

i saw this from an article written in april of last year regarding bust rates of players taken in the top 15. pretty interesting, esp when you think of what should be safe picks....

How are we defining a "bust"? Simply put, a bust is a top-15 pick who, for his career, meets these three criteria:

1. Was never a Pro Bowler

2. Started less than two-thirds of his games

3. Has extraordinarily low stat totals

Top-15 picks since 1995

Since 1995, the safest place to spend a high pick has been on the offensive line:

Offense--Picked--Bust %

O-line----29-------3.4%

QB-------25------20.0%

Skill------60------18.3%

Defense--Picked--Bust %

D-line----55------21.8%

LB/DB----56------16.1%

Since 1995, among top-15 picks, quarterbacks are busts at nearly eight times the rate of offensive linemen. Skill position players like running backs and wide receivers are busts five times as often. Even seemingly stable positions, like defensive linemen, are busts nearly nine times more often than their offensive counterparts.

You're saying nothing with those stats. Every position has a bust potential, and WR is one of the highest bang or bust positions in the draft along with DT, so there's nothing safer about taking Green like most people want. It's also irrelevant that we'd be taking Fairley a spot higher than Suh. When you're drawing up your draft board you don't compare it to last year's draft to see if you're getting good value in comparison. Honestly none of these guys (Newton, Green, Peterson, Bowers, Fairley) are really worth the #1 overall pick, but Fairley is the best DT in the draft and addresses our biggest need. It just makes sense.

I think Fairley or Peterson will fair well in our Defense. I just doubt they make 1st pick impacts though. Best think we could do is trade down with someone that wants A.J. Green in a bad way. We will pay less and prob still get one of the players we want.
