The Pro Clausen Thread....

we need a backup with a bigger arm

It's not just the arm.

Clausen is a whole different style of player. For him to be effective, you'd pretty much have to change the whole offense around. Not a good situation. It'd be like backing up Peyton Manning with Michael Vick.

For whatever people think of him (and I'm not a big fan) Derek Anderson makes way more sense backing up Newton than Clausen would.

David Carr still finds employment every year. QB is different than other positions. You can suck and find a job.

David Carr had some mediocre years and has thrown for 65 TDs in the NFL.

This is a little different than being inactive on a 3-17 team and losing your job to freaking Derek Anderson.

0% chance he does anything else in the NFL.

You can book that.

David Carr today is nothing like the guy that played in Houston. Did you not watch him in Carolina.....or San Fran. He still can find employment despite serving no real purpose.

It made sense for Clausen to lose his job to Anderson. The role isn't about ebing able to play football in Carolina. DA knows the playbook. That simple. He at least as that to offer Cam on Sundays.

David Carr showed flashes now and then, Jimmy never did. If he had been a sixth round pick from North Dakota State and played like that nobody would ever defend him. But because he's a name guy people hold out hope. When you watch the tape and really break down his play it's obvious he's just not an NFL quarterback; not mentally, not physically, not in any way. What's the best play he ever made? The under thrown duck to a wide open Stewart for his first TD against the Saints? The sideline throw to LaFell that set up Kasay's miss against the Browns? Either way, when you think about it, you could count his really good plays on one hand.
