The Pro Clausen Thread....

I think 99.9% of the huddle was ready to get rid of this guy when Luck was still in the running for the draft. The only pro Clausen guys that existed during that time, was during the latter part of the season. Yet now that the season is over, and Clausen never improved from his first start one bit and arguably regressed since then, I thought everyone was ready to let this guy go.

I know if we bring in a vet guy like Hasslebeck or Bulger, they will show up Clausen and start over him. Alot of us are talking about Clausen's ability as a QB, but not only do I not have confidence in his abilities, but I have greater doubt about his whole demeanor and attitude. If he is not mentally ready to lead those guys, all the physical ability in the world wouldn't matter. If Clausen starts next year, you may see a Ryan Leaf like attitude.

If Clausen did something like that, it would definitely be the most interesting thing he would ever do as a Panther.

He can be ours and he doesn't have to go away.

His name also doesn't have to be mentioned as a possible starter. Best case scenario is he could become good enough to be a backup QB first.

Delhomme and Warner both played a lot of football before getting an NFL start. They proved themselves as capable players before hitting the field to start a game.

Williams was that type player in college and showed glimpses of his greatness burried behind Foster on the depth chart.

I guess I shouldve mentioned that I sure as hell dont want him starting. He might however develop into something usable by the 3rd or 4th year. Who knows what might happen after that? He might continue to develop after that and become a starter. Thats all im sayin. I dont wanna talk odds about it, but Im saying he's got a shot.

Just because he turns 24 or 25 doesnt mean he's going to stop learning. Some guys are simply more determine than others to succeed and I happen to think that that is a large part of it. Jimmy strikes me as a guy who is gonna fight back. Im not sure where I get that feeling from, but thats what drives me to want to see what happens to him by year 3 or 4.

I have no issue w/ Clausen being a Panther. He just needs to get good enough to be a solid backup before we talk starter potential.

There are two types of people on this board.

Those who know for sure that Clausen is a bust.

And those with actual football knowledge.

These two traits cannot exist in the same person.

Plain and simple, the jury is still out on Clausen. No one knows what he is capable of within a legit NFL offense and adequate coaching. To pretend otherwise just makes you look like a football ignoramus.

Bring in a vet, let him run it a couple years while Jummuh develops

First start:

23/31 224 yards (something Jim never did) 7.2ypa 1 TD 1 Int

It came at the end of the year but Jimmy didn't do that at all ever. I'd say there is reason for hope there.

I assume you are talking about Moore who was not a rookie then and had a good healthy OL.

TheRealDeal, who is your plan to be our starter next year? Really, just give Clausen one more if he blows we take Luck or Barkley but he should get one more chance.

I already answered it. Clausen should be nowhere near a football field next year. He'll by by the HC with the clip board.

Why does he get another year? Every other player on offense had positives last year despite the scheme and Oline and whatever other excuse you want for him. He's the only one that didn't show a flash of potential.

You mean Clausen didn't show ANY potential, what about the 4th down throw at NO? That's not a "flash" of potential, there were a few more good plays he made too, he also almost led us on a game winning drive in Cleveland, he was a good game manager at times when the run game was going. I agree, I know he didn't give us much reason to believe but until a new CBA gets done we won't have access to any FA's so he has to be the plan headed into 2011 whether you like it or not.

I haven't watched Barkley play since last year. Going off his production last time I seen him, I wouldn't take him in the first round. Has he improved his play that much?

Also, even if we make the playoffs, we still need to make an attempt to get Luck. We need to make a trade now with a bad team year in and year out, and get their 1st round pick for next year.

If we make the playoffs in 2011 that means we had to at least have decent QB play...and like us this year, no team will trade the rights to Luck. Oh, and yeah Barkley is considered an elite prospect, some think he is on the level of Luck.
