The Pro Clausen Thread....

I haven't read all the posts on this topic, so I'm sorry if I say anything that has already been said. (and I'm pretty sure it has been said)

I'm sure there were Raiders fans who said the same things about Jamarcus Russell, and now look where they are. I can definitely give room for error to a rookie QB, especially one in put under center in our situation. However, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see Clausen is not a good QB. Even if we took AJ Green in the draft, Clausen would still assure us the first overall pick next year if he starts. The guy missed wide open targets, and one time it appeared as though the ball curved to miss the wide open target. Again, it's no wonder teams passed this guy twice (QB needy teams) in the draft.

Now, I can understand this feeling of wanting Clausen to be something, since he was declared our franchise guy by many "experts" when he was drafted. Yet it is only wishful thinking. Besides, there are plenty of rookies who played last year, and they showed a million times more potential than Clausen did in his one victory this year against the Cards. (Bradford, The Golden Calf of Bristol, McCoy, Webb, Skelton, etc.) So I don't buy our "situation" as a cop out for how bad Clausen was. In conclusion, Clausen is pound for pound the worst QB in the league. If you want Clausen to start for us next season so we can get Luck, just say so.

So is it correct for me to assume that most of you who think Clausen doesnt have "it" that QB's dont really develop in the NFL. There skill is just dormant and the guy eventually has an epiphany that makes him good?

"It" has to be developed and polished.

Rookie QBs are suppose to show glimpses of "it". A game here, a drive there, etc. You see "it" and it gives you hope in a few years that you can develop the guy and he becomes the QB you saw glimpses of.

Clausen didn't show the glimpses of "it" and there is no excuse for him not to of. He is just bad. He also lacks the standard physical attributes people look for in NFL QBs on top of showing nothing.

You gotta be kidding. What makes you think he is that bad of a prospect?

His skill set won't translate well enough. He's a runner, but not a blazer. He can throw, but isn't consistent, accuracy is mediocre, and arm strength is little above average. He is undersized in both height and weight. He benefited from a great coaching staff and very good supporting cast. I think he can make it as a career back up but as a starter, I think it would be rough.

I do not know what the point of arguing this is...Clausen will get a chance to start next year, like it or not...He did not have a fair chance to succeed this year, with a terrible offensive system...With a healthy offensive line, new coaches, and improved receivers, Clausen will have his shot to succeed...I am not saying he will succeed, all I am saying is that he will get a shot.

Yep, yep, I know, I know and Ive been following you and other guys posts about it, but my perception of it is like this.

He's ours and he isnt going away. Anybody's got a shot a developing into a starting QB. Thats what guys like Delhomme were supposed to show us. Idk . . how bout Warner for all that matters? What was he like when he came out of college?

Sometimes, you just never know what might unlock a great deal of potential in a player. Who knows, maybe if Testaverde hadnt of showed up, D'lo wouldnt be what he is today (he credits him from what Ive heard).

He can be ours and he doesn't have to go away.

His name also doesn't have to be mentioned as a possible starter. Best case scenario is he could become good enough to be a backup QB first.

Delhomme and Warner both played a lot of football before getting an NFL start. They proved themselves as capable players before hitting the field to start a game.

Williams was that type player in college and showed glimpses of his greatness burried behind Foster on the depth chart.

I do not want him coming in as the uncontested starter. But if he has/beats good competition and the new HC, OC, an Qb coach are comfortable with him as a starter then I will be content with it.

With another offseason for him and our rookie WR's along with a new OC, I have no doubt he will improve as a player. The question is wether the it will be enough.

yeah, I am fine w/ competition.

let's face it, there is no way Clausen is gonna beat anyone in a competition this upcoming year. Moore was lightyears better per reports.....and I don't even know if Moore is average.
