What do DC's spend countless hours in the film room studying? The other team's defense? Nope. They spend all of their time watching and learning the oppositions offense. In fact, every year they study at least 12 offenses in this league. They take note of what works, what doesn't, strengths and weaknesses.

No, they don't typically have experience in coaching individual offensive positions or implementing the schemes. That's the job of the OC and O Staff. But in terms of what schemes and ideology may fit our personell the best, a DC that has studied a wide variety of NFL offenses in depth may be the ideal choice.

I agree. The same can be said the other way around. There are head coaches that are "offensive minded" and their teams have great defenses.

Ron Rivera's experience as a player and DC will help him pick the best OC for our personnel (and DC too).
