for competition:gradkowski , tarvaris jackson, grossman, thigpen, moore

carrying the clipboard: pennington, bulger, josh mccown, seneca wallace

Id rather have someone who could compete for the starting job with clausen.

here is the ones I would consider from your list:

gradkowski, tarvaris jackson, seneca wallace, matt moore and maybe billy volek. the rest I wouldnt even touch with dp's u know what.

Gradkowski seems to be picking up a lot of steam lately but he might have a chance to start back in Oakland if given a shot, who knows how the new HC thinks of him. If not he's a near must to try and bring in. He's been solid most times he's played and I think he's really underrated.

Not a big Tarvaris fan and not sure that Minny clears the QB stables this year without any holdovers so they might try and bring him back with an open competition as incentive. Some people really like him and just think he needs a chance but I'm not in that camp.

Would never touch Wallace.

I don't think Sexy Rexy gets too far from Wash because of the way he closed the year out and him and McNabb definitely aren't both leaving. However, if he does I think he gets a look here as well.

No to Boller, no to DA, no to A. Smith.

Hass isn't coming here, get that out of your heads. Bulger would be okay, as well as Stanton but I think he stays in Detroit with the uncertainty there. Dixon would be worth a look if he isn't brought back as well.

Holler if volek won you a fantasy league a few years ago

I lost in my office league playoffs a few years ago because the chick had Billy Volek and Drew Bennett, when they were posting otherworldly numbers. I had Daunte Culpepper, Shaun Alexander, two beastly receivers, scoring an average of 130-140 points every week, and went like 10-2. I scored 150 something points in my playoff game against her, and still lost by 40 points, because Volek passed for over 400 yards and 4 or 5 TDs, and Bennett had like 200 yds receiving and 2 or 3 TDs.

Yes, I remember it because I am bitter. That championship should have been mine.

I would take Boller or Stanton.

Boller got messed up in Baltimore. His whole throwing motion changed from when he was at Cal. He was the original guy to throw from his knee and show off his arm strength but in Balt they shortened it and it almost looked like Rivers but it was never as effective.

I think he still has some in the tank but is a tweener between being able to start and being able to mentor. He is a victim of those Baltimore years when they had no weapons to offer the QB. If he was there now, he'd be better than Flacco.

So given we have some weapons, especially in the run game, he could be alright. With Gettis, LaFell, Smitty (most likely) Stewart, Goodson, Williams(?)and possibly a stud FA TE, he would most likely be alright.

Jeff Tedford products pretty much never make it in the pros, though.

What's wrong with Seneca Wallace? Seems like a steal.

He seems like a short term fix and would not be anything special if Jimmy doesn't develop. I'm thinking of a Delhomme type scenario in '03 where the FA brought in has a chance to compete for the starting spot and could potentially take over the helm for a few years if need be. Even if Clausen duds out and we take a rookie next draft, I think the staff willl not throw the rook to the wolves and let him sit 2-3 years and learn properly. It sure didn't stymie Aaron Rodgers growth watching Farve for a few years. And no, the comparison of Boller wasn't to Favre as much as the learning curve of a young, developing QB.
