Is it an argument anymore????

You're right, it's not an argument...it never was. Smitty is just plain better. Fitz has the numbers, but just watching the two make plays, it's clear that Smith makes the more unbelievable, game-changing, jaw-dropping, miracle plays.

Consider this:

Fitz is the perfect prototype of a receiver, Smitty is the exact opposite of what a receiver is supposed to look like, and they put up nearly the same numbers.

Fitz has a future HOF quarterback throwing to him in a pass-oriented offense, Smith has a mediocre QB throwing to him in a run-oriented offense. They put up nearly the same numbers.

Look at it logically and it's obvious that Smith is better. Everyone is just all about Fitz right now because he tore it up in the playoffs. Yes, that's a great feat and he's a great receiver, but he's just not the playmaker that Smith is, no way.

Dude, let's be a little bit more analytical about this. Let's also look at the stats.

As has been stated, Fitzgerald is the flavor of the month due to having a successful playoffs. What do you think would have happened if Jake wouldn't have tanked, and Smitty had had the opportunity to do what he always does in nearly every game. I can also make an argument that Fitz's performance was less than that of the Super Bowl MVP.

So, to make this short, I will throw all the post season prowess of Fitz out the window, because well all know that Smith has had notable postseasons (more than Fitz). Now, moving to the regular season, Smith was number 3 in passing yards. He was only 10 yards behind Fitzgerald, though he played two less games. Smith would have definitely eclipsed Fitgerald's yardage, and probably would have been the league leader (no disrespect to Andre Johnson).

Now, of course Fitz had more TDs, and Smith had the highest yards per game and though I don't feel like looking, I am sure that Smitty's YAC totals are much greater than Fitz's as well. Moreover, Fitz benefited from Boldin's injury.

But, I digress. Suffice it to say that YAC, TDs, whether or not they play for a pass team/run team are immaterial. The best way to judge a receiver is probably yardage, and being that Smith was only 10 yards under Fitz with two less games to earn them, I would say that Smith is the best receiver in the NFL.

The Cardinals coasted after they clinched and had nothing to play for....your 2 game advantage should pry be throw out the window.

Fitz at this moment is better than Smith.

Another nebulous argument. Stats mean nothing to some of you (even Smith's career stats, which are on course to be great). Figures.

As Smitty once said, there isn't such a thing as "the best WR". There are a lot of really great receivers out there and each team provides them differently.

But to try to compare the 2 is kind of pointless. They both have advantages the other doesn't. Just because Fitz was in the superbowl this time around doesn't mean he has any more leverage on the issue. About the same as the last thread a few weeks ago.

How nebulous has every friggin argument been in here. So you want stats? Lets take a look at the career avgs....dont want to? I guess stats are pointless unless you use them exactly how YOU want.

Pointing out career stats and avg's are pointless seeing as Smith broke his leg in 04 and came into the league as a PR.

Smith's career averages, just like his career overall, are on course for the Hall of Fame. I will compare his stats to any receiver that has ever played the game, but what makes Smith so special is his heart and determination, as well as his toughness. Why become perturbed over arguing about another player, over nebulous stats?

Even if I were a Cardinal fan, I wouldn't put Fitz in the same boat as Smith just yet. But Smith lives here!

Smith>Fitz, and has the years and stats to prove it.

Think what you want. You have that right.

Because its homers like you that irritate me almost as much as opposing fans.

Fitz came into the NFL in 2004 - 6975 yds and 46 TD's

Smith came into the NFL in 2001 - 7348 yds and 43 TD's

But he wanted Stats....I guess you can skew them anyway you want. How about we just factor in all the games you want and then we can decide.
