Hold the phones before everyone gets excited. As Arsen pointed out on another thread, appearently it isn't a done deal (atleast not yet) and now its being reported that the Panthers are going to bring in others for a 2nd interview.... According to John Clayton that is

I've yet to see that confirmed anywhere.

(nothing online that even confirms Clayton said it)

Clayton did NOT say that. He said IF talks fall through THEN they will in other 2nd interviews. If Richardson likes Rivera's plan, then hes our next coach. I listen to Mike&Mike as well

Oh ok, I was going by what Arsen said... My directv isn't picking up signal so I can't turn it to ESPN... Damn ice!

Inimicus said it best a few posts back. Its impossible to tell if he will pan out, but on paper his resume looks good. We can hope that Rivera brings some position coaches with him. The good news for Rivera is that he would be inheriting a successful defense, and he'd be in a comfort zone letting it progress naturally.

Hopefully, one of Rivera's first moves will be to make sure that Tyke Tolbert, our newest receiver's coach stays in Charlotte. We need Tyke, because he knows our strengths and did a good job with LaFell and Gettis, and because he did well developing WR talent in Buffalo as well. If we lose Tolbert, there is a very real chance we will get a replacement that is not as good.

As others said, Rivera's first real challenge would be to assist Marty Hurney in selecting a good OC and QB coach. The OC is important sure, but we will continue to be a run-first offense for the near future, that is not going to change any time soon. I do not see a point bringing in any new QBs until AFTER we've signed a notable QB coach who has a list of successful NFL QBs that have been developed from rookie to veteran. Get the QB coach in here, and let him be the expert who says whether or not Clausen or Pike or Cam Newton is the guy we need behind center.
