"I wonder how he like's Carolina Blue" Fairley Thread

Not sure how anyone could look at LaFell and Gettis and already judge them as "Not #1 material".

Both looked good this past season. I've seen both wide open many, many, many times, even though the qb seemed to rarely look their way on those occasions. Gettis is a baller and has all the tools to be a legit #1.

who said that? the point intended is until Gettis IS a #1 threat (if ever at all), get someone in here that is..

if you can add another threat on offense and it turns out after all that Gettis is that special, what is the problem?

you would rather wait 4 years to figure it out or go ahead and put the pieces in place? that is my question... one that keeps being avoided..

and this is ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL based on IF Gettis is a #1.. IF.

that's subjective.. we'll find out this year, including him having a year to grow as a receiver.. if he turns out to have solid #2 numbers, then he isn't what you are saying he is..

what is not a joke is that if you want to score more points, you need more threats to give the defense more to think about..

The point has nothing to do so much with Gettis and LaFell's talent as much as it does with we need a true #1.. they are not that, whether you want to believe it or not.. the collective group is what I'm discussing.. while you all keep focusing on just those 2..

we need more than 3 decent receivers... 1 extra threat would be nice.. whether it's Green or Malcom Floyd..

any debate against Malcom Floyd? Concerned with how he would look last year? if not, then get over it all and accept we need 1 real threat..

I'd love to have Floyd on the team and sure, we could stand to improve our WR core for sure. There's nothing wrong with more threats on the offense. All I'm saying is that, with our #1 overall pick, Fairley makes the most sense.

hell, I hope we trade down.. whatever we do I won't be mad.. but I can see a number of sensible opportunities and don't think DT has to be the main objective unless FA doesn't work out..

but that applies to WR as well. .

my real concern? is JR waiting to reach out to FA's before the CBA is reached if other teams are able to.. because that is really the true determining factor on the draft.. or vice versa..

but if we get through the draft with the intention of hitting FA to fill extra holes, I'm hoping other teams weren't able to do so either..

Just not sure if spending a very high pick on Green is the right thing though. Both Gettis and LaFell have shown us they've good potential. If they were both horrible and showed nothing to us this past year, I'd agree that we should draft a WR high..

I think our stable of WRs is solid.

We have positions such as DT where, I'd kill to see "gettis like potential" from some of the DTs on our roster. I'm not confident in any of them.

DE may also be a position of need if by some chance they don't re-sign Johnson.

Regardless. I'll root for whichever player the front office deems worthy of the #1 overall pick.

I wouldn't cry if we got Green, IMO, he is a legitimate #1 pick.

But so is Fairley. However, while our WR corp could stand to be be upgraded, we do have legitimate starters there. The same cannot be said for DT. It's not that we have some chipped pieces in the cupboard, rather the cupboard is completely empty.

So objectively, we have to look at what helps the team the most, and that's the DT. Also, there is no guarantee or realistic expectation that we could get a contributer with our 3rd round pick, or that we could even land one in FA. So is it more valuable to go into the season with four capable WR's and no capable DT's, or three receivers and at least one DT? The answer is obvious.

And one thing to think about taking Green, lets say we do trade Smitty for a 3rd round pick (IMO, the most we could get for him), would you really want your top three receivers having a combined 2 years experience...in a position that most experts say takes three years to master?
