Not impressive

If you look at those taken top 3 overall its very impressive.

4 out of 5 have excelled in the NFL and the other was drafted by Matt Millan.

I do agree that you take the BPA... if the difference in skill is something vast. But, here, almost all scouts have Fairley and Green ranked near the same. Since it wouldn't be a reach, and taking either one would work, why would you not take need as well as BPA?

And DT takes a while to transition? Did you see Suh play last season? The man was a force to be reckoned from pre-season on.

Also, I will stop comparing him to Suh, and I will start comparing him to Sapp. Have you ever seen Sapp's career numbers? A two-time all NFL Decade Player, Defensive Player of the Year, a number of Pro Bowls and All-Pro First Teams.

The difference in skill is noticeable. You have a WR widely-regarded as one of the better ones to declare since Johnson (who has been producing for 3 years) and you have a DT who, while very good, isn't elite and has one year of producing.

DT is a bigger need for the team, but Green is still BPA.

I just think that we have to go Fairley.

But, if we went Green, I honestly wouldn't be upset with us taking, but I would be kind of pissed off that we wasted three picks on WRs last season (including what is basically the #33 over-all pick this year)

Fairley projects well to a 5 tech too. He ain't sliding anywhere.

Thats a bad idea he is a gap shooter not a two gapper lets ask Gleen Dorsey, Albert Haneysworth and Kentwan Balmer if that would work out. i could see him in a wade phillips 3-4 as the slant end or nose, other than that his talents would be misplaced in a traditional 3-4.

A good post.

I dont recall either Sue or McCoy dominating a national championship game last year...How the heck can you say Fairley is not as good? you can't

He flat out DOMINATED that championship game, and would LOVE to have him here. He would be a beast both in pass and run game, instant started and boost for our defense

Suh did dominate the Big 12 championship game like I've never seen.

I think Fairley will be a better pick than Green because Fairley will not have to depend on Clausen. Simple as that.

that's a horrible basis for such an opinion.. who said Clausen should be starting? Orton starts, Clausen sits the bench for the next 3 years..

and everyone realizes if we don't go DT with the #1 pick there are quality DTs coming out in FA, right?

Dorsey is playing well in that Chiefs 34...;)

Who are they?

And couldn't the same be said for WRs?

absolutely not.. Jackson, Floyd, Santonio Holmes, Sidney Rice, Mike Williams (Sea), Steve Smith (NYG) are the only ones I could see us signing who are impact players.. All of them are impact players for their team and I highly doubt those teams will let them go..

Otherwise, you have Steve Breaston (most likely resigned), TO (why sign him when Green is there, laundry list of reasons to take Green before TO), James Jones from Packers...

so, the same can't really be said..

I think the DT FA prospects offer more possibilities, even if only slightly.. plus there are DTs later in the draft we can make a play for..

Yeah, the FA argument goes both ways. A TON of WR FAs this year.

^simply not true..
