Fanbase not excited by Rivera?

Most have never heard of him because he is playing on a west coast team and we don't frequently get those games on tv. Not like when we hired Dom Capers and everyone knew who he was. He could be just as talented, but most if answer honestly know very little if anything about him other than the fact that he was the d coord. at SD.

For those that wanted Cowher (I wanted him too) but look back at the last couple of big time hires - most didn't work out.

Then you have guys like Mike Smith that people still know little about and he turned around Atlanta in two years and they were in a far worse position than us.

Dude, Harbough turned around a miserable college football program in 3 years as a head coach. That is no small feat at all, I don't care who his QB was. In fact, how do you know Luck would have been as good on another team? His receivers are usually wide open so it's not really that hard to miss them.

Anyway, I never said I don't like Rivera, and I usually prefer a defensive coach anyway, so that's not a problem. My only point was that great coordinators don't automatically make great HC's, which seems to be the assumption around here. I hope that assumption is true in this case but we will see.

My point about Harbaugh was in terms of a body of work...people would have been excited about harbaugh (I would have too) but we know just as much about harbaugh in three years of being a head coach at Stanford as we do Rivera who has been an assisstant for several years. So for people to say they don't know enough about him is kinda ridiculous when you compare him to the candidates.

For anybody to say that know about Rivera as a HC is ridiculous because he's never done it before. And for the record, I'm one of the very few people on this board who can remember watching Rivera (and Manusky) play, so I had heard of him before some of you were even born.

Like I said though, I hope he turns out to be the best HC the Panthers have ever had...I just don't know yet. Until I do know, I'm fairly satisfied but not too excited.

He was 149-90-1

Went to the playoffs 10 out of 15 years and delivered a superbowl win and a runner up.

How do you rose that up?

Took 15 years to win the SB, and played in the division with the oilers, bengals, browns, and jaguars. If given 15 years Fox might have won a SB too.
