Assistant Coach Options

Kevin Acee is now saying he doesn't think the Chargers will give permission to any of their current guys.

Hate to hear that, but can't say I blame them.

I've been trying to tell people this for a while now. Coaches aren't just sitting in an aisle at the store.

here's who I feel will be realistically available, my wants in bold:

OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR

- Brad Childress (former head coach, Vikings)*

- Ron Turner (WR Coach, Colts)*

- Darrell Bevell (OC, Vikings)

- Brian Daboll (OC, Browns)

- Jim Zorn (QB Coach, Ravens) - MAYBE. Baltimore lets guys talk.

- Tom Rathman (RB Coach, 49ers)

- Jimmy Raye (former OC, 49ers)

- Ken Zampese (Qb Coach, Bengals)

I'm dropping Chryst, I like him but he's not a realistic candidate. Childress is a dick, but he's good. Zorn isn't a good playcaller. I like Trestman and Zampese as outside candidates. Worst case scenario, Turner or Raye, they're both failures.

I'd love Hue Jackson here, but expect he's the head coach in OAK. I'd also take off the assistants unless there's a link to Rivera.

QB COACH

- Ray Sherman (former WR Coach, Cowboys)

- Carl Smith (QB Coach, Browns)

- Geep Chryst (former TE Coach, Panthers)

- Childress

- Turner

- Bevell

- DabollTurner is acceptable here, Bevell and daboll better. I do like Chryst.

RB COACH

- Tim Spencer (RB Coach, Bears)*

- Jim Skipper (former RB Coach, Panthers)

- Kelly Skipper (RB Coach, Raiders)

- Raye

No lateral move for Spencer. Rathman won't move for lateral, just because he was a 49er. I didn't pick a favorite, but I'd be surprised if it were any of these guys.

WR COACH

- Jerry Sullivan (WR Coach, 49ers)

- Wendell Davis (Asst WR Coach, 49ers)*

- Tyke Tolbert (former WR Coach, Panthers)

- Charlie Joiner (WR Coach, Chargers)*

- Sherman

- Raye

again no Chargers. Sherman is best option.

TE COACH

- Pete Hoener (TE Coach, 49ers)*

- Rob Boras (TE Coach, Jaguars)*

- Bob Ligashesky (TE Coach, Broncos)

again no Chargers. No lateral moves. Chryst most likely here.

OL COACH

- Mike Solari (OL Coach, 49ers)

- Ray Brown (assistant OL Coach, 49ers)

Barone makes sense. Solari is the best of the bunch, but not sure we get him.

DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR

- Greg Manusky (DC, 49ers)

- Bob Babich (LB Coach, Bears)*

- Winston Moss (LB Coach, Packers)

Definitely noway Moss goes. Ryan or Manusky. MAYBE Babich moves on since they demoted him, but they don't have to do so.

DL COACH

- Wayne Nunnely (DL Coach, Broncos)*

- Don Johnson (DL Coach, Chargers)*

- Bryan Cox (DL Coach, Browns)*

- Mike Waufle (DL Coach, Raiders)

My cut-and-paste skills stink. I had left Dave McGinnis out of the initial post

Given that McGinnis was Rivera's LB coach for most of his Bears career, I'd say there's a pretty good chance Rivera would like to have him.

The Titans are looking at some shakeups on their coaching staff, but no direct indication that McGinnis is in danger. He might be made available for promotion, but they might want to promote him themselves if they part ways with Chuck Cecil.
