Per Jay Glazer: Rivera to become Panthers HC

I think its strange that the FO is locked into hiring a DC. Capers had 1 good year, Seifert stunk, and most of you think John Fox was terrible (although i don't)

So why not even interview Gruden, Harbaugh, green etc. For the cost of a plane ticket and a room at the Ritz you could at least cross them off the list for sure.

Because they're looking for a Smith/Mularkey type combo.

Cautiously optamistic.

Rivera's Defensive ranking history with the Chargers:

2010 - #1

2009 - #16

2008 - #25 (he took over at the end of October)

So he's improved them every year. But stats can be deceiving. And how will he manage an offense? Will we go West-Coast?

those rankings are misleading.

He had one of the nastiest 4-3 defenses in Chicago.

Took over a 3-4 (new scheme) in Oct 2008. Improved them 9 spots in 2009 and to #1 in 2010.

The man knows defense and knows how to coach an agressive style.

If we add a good OC to the mix, I really like the possibilites.

Honestly, I don't really care that much about where his defense was ranked or whether he ran a 4-3 or a 3-4. The question is...can he lead and motivate an entire team and what assistant coaches will he surround himself with. In fact, is JR even gonna let him hire his guys or is he gonna hand pick the OC and QB coach he wants?

If anyone will pick the coordinators other than Rivera it will be Hurney, JR trusts Hurney to do his job. Richardson has final say, but this is up to Hurney & Rivera being on the same page
