Matt McGuire's Mock Draft

I think there will be some movements in trades at the top. But, I don't see anyway that it will be to get the #1 pick.

Quite frankly, there probably is not a player that is truly deserving of the #1 pick in this draft. The bigger issue is that you will have to pay that person #1 pick money.

Mark my words, we would NOT get a top 10 pick and a 2nd rounder for the #1 pick. Even Snyder is not that dumb.....or is he?

What are you defining as "#1 pick money"? There is a very, very strong chance this draft has a rookie wage scale, so the money will be much less.

There is always a way to trade. If we put out feelers that we are drafting a certain player that another team is waiting for, they may trade to make sure they get their man. Of course we will not get as much as if Luck was there, but there still will be a way.

Maybe if Denver declares who they are drafting and someone wants to jump over them.

It all depends on how Newton plays tonight against Oregon and the combine. If Smith wants out we draft Green and sign a good vet to mentor our WR. If Smith stays we go DT and sign a vet QB and let Jimmy have a second chance with a new coach . We could move Smith around and paly some slot along with Gettis and Lafell. We need to sign a vet offense RG to shore up our line and hope Otah returns. I for one wouldn't mind seeing a return of Kerry Collins as a vet QB and let him retire a panther. I know he was a jerk here, but he was young and foolish then. He was a good QB and has matured over the years. I also wouldn't mind a return of Keven Green to work on our def. staff. He has worked with Dom Capers in Green Bay and knows what it takes to play at a top level.

Our QB coach could be Vinny, a well liked QB in Carolina and knows the game. I know its just sentimental thinking, but we need to build a tradition here and reward guys who have more to give after their playing years. Davis could work with our RB's.

That is yet to be seen....and likely would not be firmed up until after the draft.

You are assuming tha *** will go into effect this season...which I still have my doubts.

I'm willing to give Jimmy another chance. I'm not sure if any QB (especially not a rookie) would have done well with our play calling and injuries. While we give Jimmy another season with new play calling and a healthy team, it only makes sense to help improve the area we lacked in (offense) in the draft.

The Panthers are usually known for drafting the best talent at a position that's in need (some times not even a HUGE need at the time, ex: beason, stewart) so I agree with this mock's pick for us. Green will give Jimmy a target he can have faith in when going deep (like the old Smith was to Delhomme) which should help open up the run game again and get our offense going again. If Jimmy can prove he's worth 2 cents next year (assuming there's a season), I really like the thought of having Green developing with Jimmy as they get older.

I like Gettis and Lafell, but I don't think they'll ever pose a threat like Green could. I also like Fairley, but I just don't see us going D with the #1 pick when we had the worst offense in the league.

I wouldn't mind Jimmy going in as starter either. He needs to be evaluated in a better system, he really got the poo stick his first season. I would have him on a short leash however and do three things. 1 Bring in a vet 2. Draft a QB in the second (if they trade) or third round. 3. I would also like to see AJ green brought in to give him another (non-bitching) young weapon who he can grow and learn with. That will give us 3 promising young receivers to grow with the QB, it takes time, they were all rookies this year and AJ will be one next year.

This way if Jimmy fails, put in the vet let whoever we picked early sit behind the vet and then we will be set to look at our options next year which could mean drafting or possibly starting who we selected or oh no here it comes get ready Clausen may prove to be more than adequate. It isn't like whoever is playing knows he is the teams only option, really anyone should be on a short leash.

You never know who might fall to the third or second.

Vince Young played awesome in National Championship game and still only got drafted #4. Combine is more important, and the Mental part of QB play they check there Young did not score well on.

Is it possible for the Panthers to draft the Rights to Luck anyway, and just wait for him to come to the NFL like Celtics did with bird? What are the rules here?

When the rookie scale locks, yes, you won't have to pay as much for the top pick. But guess what happens? Teams owning that pick will now require you to give them more, pick wise, to get that pick. Their is NO player in this Draft worth multiple picks. Stop acting like there is some dumbass team out there who we'll outsmart by giving them this sucker pick. It ain't going to be a QB and sure as hell won't be Green.
