Question about unemployment

Recommended Posts

I lost my job at the end of December and I filed for unemployment. I'm currently getting a weekly deposit straight into my checking account. I'm considering moving out of state - how will this change the status of my unemployment? My understanding is the money I get comes from the state of NC, and the amount is dictated by tax money withheld while I was employed a year ago. Furthermore, how do I/is it possible to transfer my unemployment benefits to the state I move to?

Thank you for your help, in advance.

Yes, you should still get NC unemployment if you move out of state. My neighbor was getting out-of-state unemployment when he move here to NC for over a year. Not sure what you have to do, paperwork wise, but it should continue to pay you if you move. Check with the unemployment office.
