Alright Mr Richardson time to spend some money/ Nnamdi Asomugha

As it's already been said, we do sign big name free agents. Keyshawn Johnson and Stephen Davis were both big names. We just don't overspend, like what happened with Peppers and Haynesworth. That might prevents us from getting him, though.

I guess I should have said "big, expensive free agents." Sure Keyshawn was a big name but he was at the end of his career and his best days were far behind him.

Yea, we don't usually go out and dump insane amounts of cash on FAs but I wouldn't be surprised of Richardson did this year. The biggest impression I got from that press conference was not how senile or dumb he sounded, but how pissed and frustrated with his team he sounded.

I can understand almost everyone's reasons for not wanting him, be it money, maybe age, etc, but to question this guy's skill or that he doesn't deserve to be the highest paid defensive player, is kind of nuts.

But seriously, JR went cheap last year for the CBA crap, and everyone said it was to save money. Well soon it's going to be "put up or shut up" time for JR. If he doesn't bring in a big name, or at least a handful of "good to great FA's" I'm not sure people are going to have any optimism anymore about this team. I'm not saying bring in a big name for the sake of bringing in a big name, but this guy would be one of the best big name signings.

No one really knows what in the world you are talking about. Usually your posts make sense, albeit, missing paragraphs (the enter key, please use it) but this time it's like, huh? You want him to cover more than one WR at one time? It's not this guy's fault the Raiders don't get another great cornerback to cover the other WR. The definition of a shut down corner is taking a WR out of the game, and that's what he does. I don't really understand what more you want from him? Obviously it's a moot point if your other players in coverage are terrible, and if you expect the Panthers to use this gameplan, THEN I understand you. But he does all he can do, almost flawlessly. The Raiders getting TDs thrown on them by guys other than the #1 WR is just proof on how bad that team is year in and year out, not any knock on Asomugha himself.

Someone like Aso can be the most dominating player you can get on your defense. Even Peppers, could be dealt with with extra blockers, but a guy with shutdown corner skills, well, you just let him take your #1 WR out of the game (Revis vs Wayne Saturday).

I will make sure to use Pictionary to help you understand in the future. I don't doubt the guys skills. Good God get that thru your cranium. What I'm saying is based on the amount of money, the shrunken field because of Aso covering his part(do you get that part? the field is smaller for the offense to throw into) and yet Oakland gave up tons of td's in the air is proof that for the money,it doesn't equate to being a good investment.

If Carolina was closer in other areas maybe.

Obviously if you have one elite cornerback and then a scrub on the other side, and scrub safeties, TD's will be thrown on them. Durr? Imagine this guy with Gamble and our safeties.

And I'm totally fine with the reasoning we should split the money up for many areas instead of just one, but saying he's not worth it cause the rest of his team was bad, is just silly.

Sorry, pstall, I was going to say the same thing. To say that Aso isn't worth the investment based upon Oakland's suspect defense is a stretch. You have to look at what kind of impact he would make within the Panthers' defensive backfield.

Now, if you're saying that he is just too expensive, and that we could better use our money elsewhere because of a tight budget (or just because we are tightwads), then say it!

Oh, yeah, the tight budget thing really doesn't apply.

Aso plus Gamble would be good. No doubt. But for the money to be tied up at that one spot where essentially nobody throws towards, it isn't a sound plan.

Keep in mind, Will Allen and Al Harris have more thrown their way and have given up less yards per catch.

So you guys tell me. A, how much should he get per year and how many wins does he bring?

"This guy is so good nobody throws his way, so I'd rather have someone who gets passes thrown at them more so they have a chance to make the play"?? O.o

Arguments about a budget this team could have and limited money to throw at positions are legit but Aso is the real deal imo.

No signing of FAs until after CBA signed.

Repeat after me.

to further illuminate my point. would you rather have two awesome, expensive Pierreli tires on your car OR 4 solid tires?

OR...you can have the latest, state of the art, all the techy security system that money can buy but it's only good for the front of the house?

this is what I'm getting at.

For all the time our defense spent on the field, we still stunk in sacks and forced fumbles. However we looked OK on INTs and overall pass defense (just outside top 10)

I think our secondary started slow but gelled and would be helped further by a stud DT.

People keep saying Captain is not an NFL sized CB but he sure looked good this year. Did people seem him make many mistakes?

I'd rather start with a big name FA

1) QB

2) D-Line

3) Maybe WR
