Alright Mr Richardson time to spend some money/ Nnamdi Asomugha

I've been reading some fan responses on Asomugha, and it looks like they are hoping he goes to the Jets. Cromartie will be a free agent this year I believe, and if I was Asomugha, playing with Revis sounds kind of interesting. Think about that, Aso shutting down one side and Revis locking down the other, that kind of stuff should be banned from the league. That's the forbidden dance!:D

So bottom line, what could Carolina do to convince Aso we would be the better choice over a team like the Jets.

Fugin bullshit. I saw Smith get open that game. Jake Delhomme was playing like poo and under throwing him.

yep. Last time Smitty went up against Revis and Aso he was able to get a good step on both them.......only to have Jake underthrow balls for them to get picks.

Tons of reasons why this will not happen. Here are just a few.

1. Dude's 29. Sure he'll dominate for a few more seasons but the last thing this FO is doing with the roster is getting older. We need a YOUNG corner to take over for Gamble, who is also getting up there.

2. Why in God's name would he want to come here? We're completely rebuilding and don't look like we'll be ready to compete in the play-offs for several seasons.

3. We have a lot of needs to address. Aso is going to command an absurdly large contract and it wouldn't be smart to tie up that kind of money in one player when we need to sign a lot of impact players.

4. We don't sign big name free agents. Period.

I would love nothing more than to see Asomugha play for the Panthers. Aso/Gamble/Captain would be one of the best CB groups in the league. However, the chances of it happening are astronomically small. Also, we are in a position to draft a potential shut down CB in Peterson or Prince. They'll be younger, much much cheaper, and would be more than enough to solidify our secondary--it just makes more sense.

As it's already been said, we do sign big name free agents. Keyshawn Johnson and Stephen Davis were both big names. We just don't overspend, like what happened with Peppers and Haynesworth. That might prevents us from getting him, though.

to further illuminate my point. would you rather have two awesome, expensive Pierreli tires on your car OR 4 solid tires?

OR...you can have the latest, state of the art, all the techy security system that money can buy but it's only good for the front of the house?

this is what I'm getting at.

No one really knows what in the world you are talking about. Usually your posts make sense, albeit, missing paragraphs (the enter key, please use it) but this time it's like, huh? You want him to cover more than one WR at one time? It's not this guy's fault the Raiders don't get another great cornerback to cover the other WR. The definition of a shut down corner is taking a WR out of the game, and that's what he does. I don't really understand what more you want from him? Obviously it's a moot point if your other players in coverage are terrible, and if you expect the Panthers to use this gameplan, THEN I understand you. But he does all he can do, almost flawlessly. The Raiders getting TDs thrown on them by guys other than the #1 WR is just proof on how bad that team is year in and year out, not any knock on Asomugha himself.

Someone like Aso can be the most dominating player you can get on your defense. Even Peppers, could be dealt with with extra blockers, but a guy with shutdown corner skills, well, you just let him take your #1 WR out of the game (Revis vs Wayne Saturday).

I just don't see the point in throwing a lot of money at a CB when we might not be offensively competent for the next few years. We still need a good pass rush too, or our defense will get eaten up regardless. If Aso leaves the Raiders, it's because he wants to win. I just don't see him coming to Carolina.

Anything's possible though.

So you'd rather spend some money on the offensive side, etc? I can understand this. I'm just saying, saying he isn't worth being paid the most for a defensive player in the league, is wrong, he should, cause he's an elite player. If were OK at one point with paying Peppers the ungodly amount to become the highest paid defensive player, we definitely should for this guy.

And maybe he cares about winning that much or maybe not, he did sign that huge deal with the Raiders, and you really think he thought about winning the super bowl when he did that?

More than anything, I mean that we shouldn't throw a lot of money at anyone. Our team isn't built for overpaying one guy and getting us over the hump. That's more of a Minnesota thing, or a Cowboys team, or any other team that underperformed like a fringe playoff team. I just think by the time our team would be set, a 29 year old star player will be looking on the verge of 32. We'd have another Steve Smith on our hands, and wouldn't be able to get anything for him besides his efforts on the field.

Not to say our team is bad or anything. We're about to head into this season with a new coaching staff, new offensive philosophy, possibly a new defensive philosophy, and I don't think a new and expensive CB + who we draft will get us many places besides 4-12 or 5-11. Look at him on the Raiders. How many winning seasons did he have with them? I think him staying with Oakland would be more of a loyalty thing, plus they gave him a RIDICULOUS contract. I can't imagine how much $$$ a team like Dallas would be willing to throw at him.

I would love to see him play for us, no doubt. But it doesn't seem financially responsible at this point with our rebuilding process.
