Who are the offensive linemen we should draft?

4 penalties this year in 1076 snaps

2.5 ypc to his left & 4.6 ypc to his right

6 sacks, 8 hits and 15 pressures given up

You couldn't be talking more crap. He started slow, but finished the season really well. Before you focus on the 2.5 to the left, remember that we do not often run there or send TEs & FBs that way.

With focus on the topic.

I would say we need a bit of experienced depth rather than anyone in the draft. Possibly a Vincent or Bridges type of player to help transition the younger players into proper habits. Then maybe pick a late rounder with good work habits.

We have a good core 3-4 guys, with 1-2 guys who are serviceable at worst. We just need experience and chemistry.

Garry Williams only had 6 penalties and only gave up 4 sacks. We should keep him!

I have a problem with just drafting a RG and sticking him in and thinking the OLine is fixed.

He'd be a rookie and unless he's an absolute stud he'd most likely struggle at times, especially in pass blocking.

Then you have an aging Gross who is really more of a RT and has never been a shutdown pass blocker that you want out of a LT.

Otah is coming off an injury and hasn't played in a year and even before all that he struggled in pass protection and that's being nice. He's not mobile enough to consistently block good DEs in space. Shift him inside to RG where he'd be blocking less mobile DTs with limited amount of space to work and you could be looking at a perennial pro-bowler.

Even getting a good RG in the draft our overall pass blocking still looks BAD.

Like i proposed, Light at LT, Gross RT, Otah RG would drastically improve the pass blocking. Plus we have so many needs and limited picks.

Actually it was 7 penalties (one wasn't accepted) and he also had 24 pressures. In just 710 snaps.

If Williams carried on at the same rate he would have had:

10 Penalties

6 Sacks

4 Hits

34 Pressures

I don't know what is up with the memory loss issues some of our fans have. We have some solid pieces and we are historically good at evaluating and drafting O line. Gross is not to blame. LT is not an issue. RT should not be an issue unless Otah does not come back strong. At the top of the third we are not gonna get a franchise LT to replace Gross and there is NOT a LT worth the number 1. So give Gross a break. That said versatile guards like John Moffitt and Benjamin Ijalana would be good for depth and developing. BUT i have a feeling we will have to look at DT at the top of the third. Jarvis Jenkins or Sione Fua are two big runstuffers we could add at the top of the third.

Gross isn't at the end of his career...we're fine at LT for years and years to come. LTs last forever, and Gross is even on the light side for tackles, meaning less wear and tear on his legs. We just need to focus on the two G spots, fixing them however we can (whether sliding Otah in and getting a new RT/Gross to RT or getting Mankins, or whatever it takes).
