So...Having a 'Franchise QB' Doesn't guarantee a superbowl?

My biggest concern with the Panthers is whether or not the people making the decision CAN actually address getting a "franchise" / "Good Qb" or whatever we want to call it. Besides getting it right for a time being with bringing in Jake they have failed miserably. I am not sure they are capable of doing it. I guess time will tell.

a top 5, "Franchise QB" basically guarantees his team is relevant and has a chance each season. And not like the Panthers have been since Fox took over.

Colts have made the playoffs every year for 10yrs now, and thats in the tougher(Most seasons) AFC. Thats all because of Peyton Manning.

this team, the Bills and a couple others would not be playoff teams this year with Peyton Manning at QB.

It is about the TEAM. Bill Polian build the 90's Bills. how many HOF guys from that team? Bill Polian build the colts into what they have been those 10 years you list. He did it because he puts talent around Peyton and each year he loses talent, he finds more to replace it in the draft.

2 of the 3 best QB's in the league just got ousted in one day of playoffs.

Strong running game, great defense, and a QB to manage the game is still playoff winning football.

I am just sayin'...........

but...strong running game, great defense, and a great QB = dynasty.

if you want to be the best, you got to get the best. you can win without one, but why would you want to settle? we've been doing that for how long here? seriously...aren't you tired of making excuses for a slightly above average team? this team needs a top notch QB to put it over the top.

There are no guarantees in the National Football League.. so any fans that think superbowl or bust are living with their head in the clouds..

however, QB is the most important piece to that puzzle.. there are other pieces to that puzzle that must be in place as well..

don't confuse one statement to mean something it does not.. anyone harping on QB doesn't mean you can forget having a defense, run game, or special teams..

you just said a lot to say nothing at all.. lol

fact remains, you need a franchise QB regardless of where they are drafted or the hype of that player...

regardless of how that QB earns the franchise QB label, we need one..

You need a damn good QB, not a 'Franchise' / 'Elite' one. Peyton manning wouldn't be the QB he is now if he were under Fox and the systems he had here.

But what makes a top notch QB? Its not being the first overall pick, many have failed. Its not being a heisman trophy winner, those have failed. Would Payton Manning be Payton Manning if he had been drafted by Cleveland? Buffalo? Steve Young sucked as in Tampa, he didn't flourish till he got to San Fran under that staff and that system. Brett Favre got punt kicked from Atlanta and didn't do poo till he got to GB.

First off you must have talent. I feel the greatest assets the greats have had are leadership first, the ability to read defenses, staying calm and delivering to open receivers is next. A strong arm? Yeah thats nice but Jeff George had one of the strongest ever. Next is coaching / System. You can't handcuff a gunslinger in a West coast offense, just like Joe Montana wouldn't have been the right guy to run the Run and Shoot of the 90's. Then you have to add talent around the QB to fit the system and skill sets the QB has.

We can all agree you need a damn good QB in this league, its how it is. No one other than Center touches the ball more, but he isn't the end all and you sure as hell don't have to spend the #1 pick on one esp if you are looking at reaching for one with that pick. We need to trade down a few spots and look at Mallett maybe or really scout hard guys we might pick up later in the first or even in the 2nd if we can get a 2nd rounder back.

I am really affraid Hurey and Richardson are going to be reaching no matter what the pick with #1

you're confusing/assuming Franchise means Elite.. if you find a QB you can win games with whether is he is damn good or elite, you have a franchise QB..

if, for the purpose of not getting lost in translation, you have a damn good QB.. then we are well on our way..

hasselbeck is a franchise qb, but...

...franchise qb doesn't = elite.

This. This! F*CKING THIS!!!!

Anyone who doesn't understand this difference should kill themselves.

Please people, you are embarrassing yourselves. Clausen was our franchise QB this year.

A Franchise QB is nothing more than a person casual fans can recognize and name their team.

Have you watched the Colts recently? If Peyton got hurt, they would probably be as bad as the Panthers.

Also, the Ravens/Chiefs game is a reason to have a QB that is more than just a game manager, the Chiefs were running all over the Ravens in the first half, but yet only up by 4. Once the Ravens shut down Charles and Flacco got hot, Ravens pulled away easily.

Said it the way I said it to show how confused some are of what a Franchise QB is .

Drafting an elite QB is not the only way to aquire a Franchise QB

The word "Franchise QB" has been used to define a top QB in the draft around here .

Some even assume drafting a top QB equals a player that comes in day one and turns this team around .

Very few QB's come in first season and set the league on fire !
