So...Having a 'Franchise QB' Doesn't guarantee a superbowl?

I wonder how many non-franchise QBs have won the Superbowl since we've been a team? Oh yeah, two. And Tampa and the Ravens never got back to it. Yet now that they have franchise QBs, they have much better shots. This board pisses me off from time to time. So many of you love being under the radar, and are ok with a "game manager", as long as you can sneak your way into the Playoffs where anything can happen. Way to think big there, guys! BTW, to the OP, who knocks the morons for putting so much into the QB scenario with the draft: you want us to pick a fiving qb...who if he's as good as you say he is...will be our franchise qb. Go slap yourself.

So is a franchise QB only a 1st round draft pick ?

Or could a QB be drafted lower or not at all and still be a franchise QB ?

Or could a QB develope later and become a franchise QB ?

And is a franchise QB great from his first season to his last?

Everyone keeps talking about the franchise QB that will deliver Panthers to the Super Bowl

Who is this masked man ?

Ok lets try again, do we need to upgrade QB? Yes. Do we have to pick one with the #1 overall pick to have an upgrade? No. Is an elite QB talent the main key to getting to a superbowl? NO! There are several sitting at home right now.

There is no arguement we need a damn good QB, what is stupid is thinking QB is the end all key to getting where we want to go.

a top 5, "Franchise QB" basically guarantees his team is relevant and has a chance each season. And not like the Panthers have been since Fox took over.

Colts have made the playoffs every year for 10yrs now, and thats in the tougher(Most seasons) AFC. Thats all because of Peyton Manning.

Missed my point.

You still need a very solid QB to be relevant in this league....something which we do not currently have.

However, you do not have to have that "once in a life-time" QB to win in this league.

A "franchise" QB is not necessarily a winning QB. And a winning QB is not necessarily a franchise QB.

The 2 shouldn't be confused, cross-referenced or otherwise even used in the same sentence. For example:

Matt Hasselback is indeed the franchise QB for the Seahawks. He's been in the league for 12 years and the last 10 have been with that team. Except for injuries he has been the starting QB for that team since he got there in 2001. The Seahawks have an NFC title and a Super Bowl loss (same as Carolina), 7 Division titles (5 with Hasselback) and 11 playoff appearances (6 with Hasselback).

Say what you will about the team, the division or the QB, but he's done more with that team than any QB on Carolina's roster since the team came into existence. And the team has accomplished more than the Panthers in the same time frame as the Panthers have been in existence.

Second example (an easy one):

Josh Freeman. Sure, the guy won this season and put up some pretty good numbers for a second-year QB, but a "franchise" QB? No. If he's still starting in 4 or 5 years, then he could be considered a franchise QB, whether or not the Bucs see any post season success doesn't eliminate the notion he is the team's QB of the present and future- which is the real definition of a franchise QB.

So any QB regardless of where they are drafted or if they are drafted at all.

Can become a Franchise QB over a period of time say 3-4 seasons .

Therefore any QB that has not played a down in the N F L yet

In spite of all the Hype is not a true Franchise QB

So why all the talk of needing to draft a franchise QB

When NO draft pick is quarnteed to be a franchise anything

Interesting !

There are no guarantees in the National Football League.. so any fans that think superbowl or bust are living with their head in the clouds..

however, QB is the most important piece to that puzzle.. there are other pieces to that puzzle that must be in place as well..

don't confuse one statement to mean something it does not.. anyone harping on QB doesn't mean you can forget having a defense, run game, or special teams..

you just said a lot to say nothing at all.. lol

fact remains, you need a franchise QB regardless of where they are drafted or the hype of that player...

regardless of how that QB earns the franchise QB label, we need one..
