Can we all agree that Nick Fairley need not be drafted at number 1?

Awesomeness!!

We have the AJ Green bandwagon, the Cam bandwagon, the trade the pick for Locker-Mallet-Newton Bandwagon, but I'm on another bandwagon, and thats the do not draft Nick Fairley no matter what bandwagon. I think he is retarded for starters, and you don't take a Defensive Tackle at number 1. Plus I've seen him, and he takes plays off, and he isn't even that good imo. I don't care what we do, as long as he isn't the fuging pick.

Everyone keeps saying "You don't take (insert position) at #1." Why? Are we only allowed to draft a QB, RB, WR, Tackle or DE at #1? Suh was nearly drafted first overall last year and would have been a great pick at that spot. For those who say you shouldn't draft a CB first overall...if you knew that you had the next Darelle Revis available, of course you would take him. We don't need to pigeon-hole ourselves into certain positions. We should take the BPA that also addresses a need. That would be Peterson or Fairley. Green or Bowers would just be a luxury pick. Sure it'd be nice to have a good rookie DE or WR, but those positions aren't high on our need list right now. CB and DT are.

And none of the QB's left in the draft are worth drafting in the first round picks.

Assuming we are stuck with #1 pick, you have to get in JRs head and figure if he wants to use the pick to...

a) excite the fan base and sell PSLs

A QB (Newton, Mallett, Gabbert, Yates lol at this point who knows)

AJ Green

B) fill biggest need for this season

Fairely

Dareus

AJ Green

c) build for the future

Bowers

Dareus

Peterson

Amukakbar

IMO none of the QBs left would be a significant upgrade over our current situation or whats available in FA. AJG would be exciting but unless Smitty really does want out, WR is not an urgent need. DTs not named Suh are often a dime a dozen in FA so scratch Fairely. As far as I can tell that leaves either DE or CB. And since it seems the two are mutually dependent, (No pressure = open receivers, Open receivers = no pressure) either pick improves the other. Bowers is the best talent in the draft however if Marshall does leave, I think we have to take Peterson/Amukamara. 3 good CBs will make Johnson/Hardy look alot better.

I just can't see trading down. I think at the most we could swap 1sts & pick up a 2nd for this year. (actually... if we did that with a team that has the 2nd thru 5th pick I'd count that a win... dear god... did I really say tha... OH SWEET ENOLA GAY! I FUGGING MEANT IT TOO!) Ahem... if we trade out of the top 10 I think that hurts us. (if we trade to the Patriots I'm gonna make the national news!)

Also, what if the rookie cap is in play? If it is why not take a DT or other position of need that isn't traditionally a #1 at #1? (not Fairley though, NA is right, he takes plays off & I had enough of that poo with Pep.)

Have you seen Revis play this year? He isn't worthy of the 1st round position he was taken at, based off of his play this season. Jets gave up 8td passes all of last year, this year its 20+

Because its one thing for a QB or DE to bust. At lease there was the hope of turning your team around. A CB can not do that, and you would have to pay him X to have no impact on the team what-so-ever. Its the same reason Kickers and Punters are rarely even drafted. The lack of impact they have don't warrant a pick.
