Big Cat getting new heart

So how do you judge whom is more suitable to have their life saved? Tell me, what were the situations around the heart that he received compared to the other people who were also on the list? Grow the f*ck up.

you're right im sure the 72 year old man was the youngest and healthiest candidate with the most life left to live.

I doubt he got bumped up because of who is is....those lists have some pretty strict criteria. I remember that the average wait for a heart was a lot shorter than I would have thought.

I am hoping for the best for him.

Uh, then you don't know how the world works. Haven't you ever seen John Q?

There were six people on the list according to reports, and the average wait is about 2 months which is about how long he waited. Mind you there are a lot of restrictions on what heart will go into what person so yes he was the most suitable candidate for the transplant. People like you who know how to do nothing else other than bitch and moan to troll message boards make me laugh, so entirely predictable. You run around bitching to get people upset because your life sucks so bad. Get over it.

Timing would be crucial. Typically, transplant teams have about four hours to take the heart from a donor and transplant it inside a recipient.

The new heart had to come from someone approximately the same size as Richardson, who is 6-feet-4. They must also have compatible blood types.

At the time he was placed on a waiting list, officials said he could receive a new heart immediately, or wait for years. The median wait is about two months, but it all depended on finding the right match, said Dr. Ted Frank, medical director for adult transplantation at CMC.

Six patients were awaiting a transplant in December, and one had been waiting for 3 1/2 years, hospital officials said then.

can't believe that some of you guys are arguing about whether or not he should have gotten it or if his wealth played a part. silliness.

too many factors to consider. the fact that he is 72 shouldn't play that big of a role. he could easily live another 15 years. money doesn't play much into it either but small minded people will hate just to do it.

glad he's doing well.

hope the recovery is a success.

That is not one of the criteria.

Reading the Observer article, besides matching things like blood type and body type, one of the biggest criteria is distance. The transplant has to be completed within 4 hours. So if there's a teenager in Oregon and the heart is in Virginia, it won't make it. Mr. Richardson was probably the closest matching candidate.

Channel 36 WCNC just confirmed that they heard from the Panthers team about Mr. Richardson's transplant.

ya know Fiz, with that kind of logic we should just quit working to cure Alzheimers or Cancer in people over 70 as well. I'll rely on your vast wisdom and compassion to set the guidelines.

Regardless of whether I agree with Fiz or not, this is such horribly flawed logic I actually spit my drink out when I read it in laughter.

How many people suffering from Alzheimer's need an organ transplant vs people suffering from some sort of heart disease? Disease research can be done, even on illnesses affecting the elderly, without f*cking over younger people who all have a much better chance of living a long healthy life than someone over 70. Organ transplants do.

And for the record, I'm ecstatic Big Cat got his heart. But if we're going to have a ridiculous debate on whether the elderly should get heart transplants, we might as well keep it on track.

yes that makes a lot of sense

Get the hell out of here! You are nothing more than pessimistic troll that has nothing better to do than do than try to piss people off on messageboards.

A lot of people tend to care about Mr. Richardson for everything he has done to bring Football to the Carolinas and everyone within the NFL admires the man for what he brings to the sport.

How dare your ass come on this MB and say some stupid crap like that!

Like Rayzor said Good Job on screwing up a great thread!
