I doubt he got bumped up because of who is is....those lists have some pretty strict criteria. I remember that the average wait for a heart was a lot shorter than I would have thought.

Mind you there are a lot of restrictions on what heart will go into what person so yes he was the most suitable candidate for the transplant. too many factors to consider. the fact that he is 72 shouldn't play that big of a role. he could easily live another 15 years. money doesn't play much into it either but small minded people will hate just to do it.

That is not one of the criteria.

Reading the Observer article, besides matching things like blood type and body type, one of the biggest criteria is distance. The transplant has to be completed within 4 hours. So if there's a teenager in Oregon and the heart is in Virginia, it won't make it. Mr. Richardson was probably the closest matching candidate.

Channel 36 WCNC just confirmed that they heard from the Panthers team about Mr. Richardson's transplant.

How many people suffering from Alzheimer's need an organ transplant vs people suffering from some sort of heart disease? Disease research can be done, even on illnesses affecting the elderly, without f*cking over younger people who all have a much better chance of living a long healthy life than someone over 70. Organ transplants do.

And for the record, I'm ecstatic Big Cat got his heart. But if we're going to have a ridiculous debate on whether the elderly should get heart transplants, we might as well keep it on track.
