JR Would Never Pick Cam Anyway

I wouldn't be too worried about Newton's character issues, he stole that laptop when he was 18 and you can tell just from hearing him talk he has changed a lot since then. I really don't feel like he played much of a role in the quest to get money either.

I think we should take Newton and if he has a great combine and plays a great NC, I think we will take him. Newton at least brings excitment and will have people buying tickets for the game. Just like with The Golden Calf of Bristol this year, he sold more jerseys than any other player. America has fallen in love with Newton and drafting him would really suit the fanbase.

He's just so gifted, you almost think there is no way he could bust - of course we said the same thing about Reggie Bush. I'm not too worried about his work-ethic, I mean he obviously worked pretty hard to get himself to where he is now.

I think some of you are vastly overestimating the Newton hype if you think America has fallen in love with him like The Golden Calf of Bristol...

Honestly I'm not as convinced as many of you that his skills will translate to the next level, but he is fun to watch.

What dose America have to do with the Panthers...

I think it all boils down to this do you think JR would draft a guy #1 overall with this amount of character controversy over? As it sits now I see us drafting Bowers. Both Newton and Fairley have those issues and I don't see AJ Green as this C. Johnson type prospect that would be worthy of the #1. Bowers can take over a game and is a tremendous athlete and is (to the best of my knowledge) clean.

In a perfect world we could trade back to the 5-10 picks pick up a 2nd and get whoever is left out of Newton, Fairley, Green, Bowers, or Peterson. But I just don't see a team willing to trade up to #1 for the same reasons most of our fanbase wants out of it.

It doesnt matter how classy our team is next year, if JR doesnt bring something in to win back over fans, it wont matter. You're gonna see more half empty stadiums, possibly a blackout or two. This franchise is not seen very favorably right now locally and nationally. Now is not the time to be sticking our nose in the air talking about "character". We've been classy losers for long enough. Nobody's saying lets go sign Pacman Jones, but this nitpicking for perfection is counterproductive to what we need right now. And its not like we dont have guys with "character issues", our 2 leaders Smith & Beason have been embroiled in controversies of their own as Panthers.

Personally, I don't give a rat's ass whether America has fallen in love with Cam Newton...I care about what he can do for the Panthers. Hell, if Bradford can come out of a hybrid spread offense and make it in the NFL, then why shouldn't Cam Newton be able to do it? Hell, I never even saw Bradford throw long in college, but he was the consensus #1 overall pick last year.

Also, are we seriously going to start holding every draft prospect accountable for what their fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters have done in the past? If that's the case then you might as well take half the players in this draft off the board.

Furthermore, I guarantee you the HOF is full of players who took money in college. For every kid that gets caught, I guarantee you that there are 10-20 more that you never heard about. This stuff has been going on for my whole lifetime, and I'm about twice as old as most of the posters here.

Honestly, if Cam lights up Oregon Monday and has at least a good combine, I bet Jerry will take him. The fanbase wanted Luck, he said he would have taken him...now that most want Newton I feel like he will do the same. I wouldn't be too upset with Green either.

Monstercat made a good point, Bradford came out of a spread offense and there were serious concerns about his arm, he ended up fine. I think Newton could do the same and also have the running abilities.

I'm going to reserve judgement until after Monday's game because i haven't seen enough to come to any conclusion about his talent. As far as any off field issues, I think at some point we all have done things that we weren't proud of when we were growing up. I know if he's considered that due diligence will be done by the Panther's staff to make sure that those things are behind him.

Another thing. Don't think that the pay for play deal hasn't been tried before and been successful. Stuff like that has been going on for decades. That should have no bearing on Cam Newton being picked by the Panthers.

At this point color me interested but not convinced.

AJ Green violated NCAA rules and sold his jersey...so you don't want him either based on the same logic...

...or Robert Quinn from UNC...or Marcel Dareus from Alabama...or Marvin Austin from UNC...or Jabaal Sheard from Pitt...or Greg Little from UNC...or any other player with any off the field issues with the NCAA

If you don't want Cam because he cheated on a test then you are also ruling out about half of the draft class...

hahahahahaha...HALF the draft class? I say more. Way more.

If you don't take a guy, it has to be based on talent alone (unless they have VERY questionable qualities...like, a murder conviction, weapons charge, etc.). You can't say "kid made a mistake when he was 18-19 years old, so we're not taking him". That is ignorant. JR better take him. We need a QB now. Not 3 years from now. FA isn't the answer and neither is Clausen/Moore/Pike. Newton or GTFO.

there is nothing that irritates me more than reading some of you stupid f**king fans who breakdown every little issue of someone's character..

the main thing that gets to me is when y'all manufacture issues that aren't issues, or have nothing to do with football and are hardly off the field issues...
