JR Would Never Pick Cam Anyway

well said and i very much agree. tony dungy taught the league a very important lesson with vock, even though closed minded people who believe that people never change won't buy it and philly very much is reaping the rewards of this at the moment.

the guy is a winner and that is the biggest thing. he has made a couple mistakes in the past, but hardly anything that shows he is a "thug". they were mistakes made by a dumb/naive kid and the kind of thing that one grows from, which all indications are he has b/c he hasn't gotten into any trouble at auburn.

the guy knows that everything he does is going to be held under a microscope. it already has much more than mike vick or VY or any player people are comparing him to. knowing that is going to help keep you out of trouble for anyone with a clue (which he has).

sounds like it. truthfully i am more bothered by the potential problems that could come from mallett than just about anyone. we've already had one drunk QB. not sure i want another.

I think this is why Newtons interview will be so important. Remember a few years ago we told LenDale White we were going to draft him but after that interview we chose Dwill. Maturity problems arose soon after and Dwill has been much more successful. Panthers generally make good first round picks so whoever they choose will be good.

agreed. still scared because of how they have treated QB. this has shown to be the weak link and while i trust their judgement in all other areas (although WR is a little shaky to me), QB is where i doubt their scouting ability.

The character issues I have with Newton aren't like the rest of yours. I'll forget about the laptop, because it was a dumb college mistake.

Two weeks ago I asked him if he still talked to any of his friends at Blinn...he said, "No, I haven't in a long time but they're only a call away."

What was his biggest memory at Blinn aside from the title? Building friendships, leading a team? Nope. "Having to stand in the hot sun and paint the stadium bleachers."

Newton has a sense of entitlement that makes Jimmy Clausen's supposed feelings of entitlement look non-existent. That is a concern to me.

That is concerning, heh.

:lol: :smilielol5::rofl:

wow, you're reaching.

dude you don't think his father is going to be there always hanging on him? You can't just expect family to change or for a son to drop family like a dime. His dad is his dad.

this is exactly right. all of us speculating JR won't take him are doing it because we expect that his character issues will show some place... but we could be wrong about him and you never know.

I think this year especially, the interviews are gonna be huge.

Smitty was a 1st rounder, Cam Newton is probably going in the 1st. If we take him, that's 1st overall, biiiiiiiiig difference. If you look at the history of our drafting, we take chances on character issues after the first round, but when all the money's on the line, we take take the saints man lol

this post is full of fail mainly because you were either too lazy to look up when Smitty was actually drafted or don't really know what the hell you are talking about

I'm sticking to trading back in the first round, picking up a second rounder and seeing if we can get Cam later in the draft

we wouldn't be drafting his dad. we would be drafting cam. just a silly idea and a reason to hate. keep on, though. it's pretty entertaining the amount of reaching and make believe excuses for not wanting him here.

so why are we all wasting our breath? I am not a Cam fan because of his character issues mainly, but it really doesn't matter. JR will never take a player like Cam with all of his questionable character issues. I said the same thing when Vick was a free agent and half this board wanted him. JR is a family man and regardless of what you think about him there aren't many who question his integrity.

eh, his dad has issues.

Jon Beason had audio hit the web rapping with guys rapping about putting weiners in girls ears and stuff right before we took him.

When members of your family try to sell your services, you better believe there will be some investigation into his family at some level. His father is a concern. It doesn't detract from what he has done this year but it is a concern when it comes to face of the franchise stuff.

I think that had to do more with Fox then it did with our franchise. Look at what Richardson said in the Presser. He said we are going to pick a coach that dose what we want not the other way around. He also said that this now is a offensive league and we would be foolish not to follow the trend.

I know, I know, we have been watching the Fox show so long it seems like we could never pick a QB #1.

I would be happy to take Newton if we could trade out of the #1 pick and get some more 2nd and 3rd round players with him, but without L_-k in the draft will anyone trade with us for the pick? I'm thinking no and drafting Newton at 1 would be foolish IMO...

I doubt anyone will want to trade up... I think we are stuck at one, if we like it or not.

I dont see how this is any different then the Peppers situation. As long as Newtons father is not his agent we should be alright.

Lets face it

Peppers had a horrible agent/coach/friend that made deals difficult.

Peppers was on roids when he came to Carolina.

Peppers caught a STD and it effected his performance on the field.

How much more trouble can Cam be then that? Hell there are people still wanting Peppers back!!!!
