We won't pick Cam for several perfectly good reasons that have nothing to do with his character. For example, the fact that we have never had or expressed interest in having a running QB. Or the fact that he will require a couple seasons to develop and that there are several more polished QB's available. He's not even close to being worth the #1 overall pick.

Yes, he's a tremendous athlete and yes, he has great upside. I'd love to have him on the team. But it doesn't make any kind of sense at #1 overall. If we trade down, maybe.

I agree it'd be nice to have a guy like Cam, great talent, great potential... however his question marks are too great for a team like us. The guy one of the best college OLines I have ever seen. Nobody gets a whiff of him for a good 4-5 seconds. What is he gonna do facing real pressure, especially if he is stuck behind a line as porous as ours 2/5ths of a pro-bowl line. Not to mention he hasn't had to read a defense or recognize a blitz as everyone has been so scared of his legs that, virtually, the only scheme he has faced all year is a spy prevent hybrid designed to keep him in the pocket.

Call it race baiting if you want, but only black QB's on this board get topics started and are judged by:

Character issues (very broad statement)

Have their work ethic questioned (statement like but what will he do after he gets paid)

Intelligence questioned.

Get called a thug for a misdemeanor.

I though a QB should be judged on

Arm Strength

Pocket presence

Decision Making

and call me crazy, how many times he wins.

No its not everyone. No I don't believe a vast majority here are racist. Do I think the huddle as a whole condones this? No. However to say a lot of people here are prematurely biased against black QB's is not a stretch. Thus all the anti Newton post today.

Just so we have accuracy. He was arrested for burglary and larceny (both felony) and he plead to a lessor charge of receipt of stolen goods. He threw the lap top out the window when the cops came to ask him questions.

Sure b/c JR has no black people on his team. The point of this thread is not a white/black issue it is the fact that JR will not invest the future of his franchise in a player with character issues. If you have followed JR or know anything about him, he is a family man and one of character. Not saying our whole team is a bunch of boy scouts, but 1st round money and especially 1st pick overall is a whole different story.

I don't care if you believe me or not but I would bet a lot of money that it isn't going to happen so don't your get your hopes up if you are a Cam fan.

I feel that if Richardson really IS a man of character like the image he wants to present, he would realize that people make mistakes in college and as young adults, and that a 20 year old doing something dumb in college is waaaayyyy different than a NFL vet getting a DUI, or gun charges, or sexing up a girl in a bathroom stall in Georgia.

Newton is a winner, he's won everywhere he's been. He won a Junior College National Championship(Steve Smith got his start in Junior College) and now he's undefeated as a starter at Auburn and could win a National Championship there too. Winning is contagious, when you start winning you'll work harder to stay a winner. First thing that happened with Jimmy when he started this season bad was to say "well you know I started bad too at Notre Dame..."

well said and i very much agree. tony dungy taught the league a very important lesson with vick, even though closed minded people who believe that people never change won't buy it and philly very much is reaping the rewards of this at the moment.

the guy is a winner and that is the biggest thing. he has made a couple mistakes in the past, but hardly anything that shows he is a "thug". they were mistakes made by a dumb/naive kid and the kind of thing that one grows from, which all indications are he has b/c he hasn't gotten into any trouble at auburn.

the guy knows that everything he does is going to be held under a microscope. it already has much more than mike vick or VY or any player people are comparing him to. knowing that is going to help keep you out of trouble for anyone with a clue (which he has).

Is 'character issues' a new word for being Black? Seems like no one has even brought up Mallet's character issues.

sounds like it. truthfully i am more bothered by the potential problems that could come from mallett than just about anyone. we've already had one drunk QB. not sure i want another.

I agree with this. We kinda need a guy that is really good that the rest of the league grows to hate. Newton could be that guy.

Newton was stupid to throw the computer outside...when he had already written his name on it. As far as the test, he wasn't the only one at UF to do that. He would've been a minority if he didn't. Some of the "character issues" are because of where he was, and everyone makes mistakes. I love how his are magnified, though, because no one else makes mistakes...not even the FA QB some want, Kyle "Miller Time" Orton.

The character issues I have with Newton aren't like the rest of yours. I'll forget about the laptop, because it was a dumb college mistake.

Two weeks ago I asked him if he still talked to any of his friends at Blinn...he said, "No, I haven't in a long time but they're only a call away."

What was his biggest memory at Blinn aside from the title? Building friendships, leading a team? Nope. "Having to stand in the hot sun and paint the stadium bleachers."

Newton has a sense of entitlement that makes Jimmy Clausen's supposed feelings of entitlement look non-existent. That is a concern to me.
