Hypothetical: Davidson is about to get snatched away, and we have to choose between firing Fox and promoting Jeff or keeping Fox and letting Davidson walk, most likely taking anyone off the staff he wants with him.

John Fox

Pros: Head coach of the team since 2002, one of the more successful coaches in the league since that time in regards to winning percentage, three playoff appearances, players supposedly like him, doesn't take any poo.

Cons: Sticks his nose into his coordinators business, doesn't tailor his style to the players he has, his teams have been known to have massive letdowns late in the season and collapses late in games, costly deference to veterans, stubborn

Jeff Davidson

Pros: Young up and coming coach, has proven to be a good offensive coordinator (beginning of 2007, 2008 coached one of the league's best offenses), upside, breath of fresh air, would probably bring in new coaching staff on the defensive side of the ball (OMG 3-4 UNNNNNHH), connections to the mythical Belichick tree which apparently cures cancer or something

Cons: Unproven, looks about as intimidating as forums user Jase, unknown how he would handle a team, offense collapsed after Jake went down, was unable to call plays to suit the talent he had (though that might be unfair considering it was Vinny and Carr), called an awful game in the playoffs (though again that might have been Fox)

1. We just brought in new coaching staff on the defensive side of the ball.

2. 3-4 doesnt = wins, it's not the cure all.

3. Fox doesn't have massive letdowns, he either has a strong surge to end the season or moderate letdowns.

4. Mythical Belichek Tree include firees Mangini and Crennel. In other words, it doesn't mean instant success.

If I had a choice though, I'd keep Davidson. I like Fox, but Davidson is pretty much Fox with a better offensive mind. Call your own plays and let the d-coordinator do their work. It works better like that on a lot of teams. Besides he's a big guy like Mike Holmgren and Andy Reid that could call his own plays. Who wouldn't want that?

Let me see one more year of Davidson offense and I'll make a judgment then. If he can be nearly as successful as he was this year than next year, yet we still can't make the playoffs, he's got a case.

I think if Meeks can run his own system the way he wants, which is probably what Davidson would let him do we will probably be successful as far as defense goes.

Hypothetical situations that have no chance of happening and makes no sense whats so ever? And you call my threads bad?

your posts are so far beneath me i can barely read this.

option 3

Fiz's Hypothetical stir the pot polls are getting old.

talented young coordinators possibly replacing head coaches isn't unheard of. It happened most recently last year, when most thought Rex Ryan was going to replace Billick in Baltimore.

i put effort into this thread, the least you could do is put effort into a weak reply.

Fiz you attack too much when someone disagrees or finds what you post a little on the irrelevant side so don't shoot the messenger if you don't like the message.

And I'm for keeping Fox btw as a no brainer, Davidson has had one good season as a OC under Fox who many complain is far too manipulative with the offense and defense on the team, but with that also in mind you could argue that the success Davidson has had can be attributed to Fox, but hey that wouldn't jive well with the current "Fox is teh sux" crowd right now. And Fox has had the 4th most wins in the NFL since taking over a 1-15 team if you do the math it isn't even close as for Rex Ryan he had been they're DC for a couple of years and didn't have just one good season either. right now Davidson has 1 good season and 2 bad ones(one with the Browns one with us) and now you and a few others are acting like he's the second coming? And you called my response weak?

davidson called great games before jake went down last year, as I alluded to in the OP

please explain how anyone would argue that davidson's success at calling plays is due to Fox

davidson took over in 2006 on an interim basis and did pretty well considering the situation.

also kindly point out where i implied he was the "second come"

first off the "Second Come" thing was supposed to be "second coming" and I did fix it before you posted your post

and in your arguments though this season Davidson ran the truest form of a John Fox "offense" that we have seen to date as well, right???? hmmmmm.... just pointing out the fact that how they ran the offense this season is also very different from the Previous 2 season that he was a OC as far as play calling goes so you can't deny the Fox's influence into the offensive game plan.

IMO right now Fox and Hurney are trying to build a system that the Panthers are to use for many years to come, much like how you see the Steelers run they're system now, if you have been watching you would have noticed some serious changes in they're approach to how the draft and Pick up players in the off-season.

in previous years we took the best player available instead of going after the Player that would best fit they're system, I have heard Marty Hurney say many times that we will adapt the system to fit the players that we get, end result a lot of our players didn't pan out or work out at first, last year though we went out and drafted and went after Players in FA that would fit the system that we wanted to play, end result a huge slam dunk, IMO if the Panthers can continue this trend we could set up our success for the next 20 years, but if you cut Fox now before we have seen if this even pans out then you are doing far more harm the good
