cam newton: sport science

You guys really need to stop bringing Vick into this, he doesnt in any way compare to Vick. Mike would make this kid stand still. Cam has no chance of running like he ran in college and if he does he wont last 3 games

I could swear The Golden Calf of Bristol ran for 100 yards in a game already and on average he puts up atleast 60. Cam is bigger faster and stronger so why can't he do it?

Agree totally with the above. LOL

HEY, where the heck did you dredge that up from?? hahah That doesnt mean that I dont have character concerns and concerns about him diagnosing a playbook and a defense but he does have a lot more passing ability than Vick did. Vick is damn lucky he's in Andy Reid's system and not playing under an inept coaching staff like some people I know. What a nice throw and release Vick has though, its a thing of beauty

I have to agree. Its a gamble but, even if luck was in the draft, newton would be who i'd say has the most potential. Luck is wonderful and could be the next manning. Newton could be something the nfl has never seen.Just his potential has me sold. He is a once in a generation talent. When have we ever heard of a 6'6 250 player at any position running a 4.52(its rare). not to even bring up having a cannon for an arm and pretty accurate.its time to gamble people. we've played it safe with the good ole boys for far to long. Our offense average almost 12 points a game this season and we pick a defensive player?

Sure he has just one college season under his belt thats why its a gamble. All the qbs are a jumbled mess right now and if thats the case you go with the one with the most potential.

At least some people see it as it is.

Maybe he can, I just dont see it happening with the crazy schemes they come up with now

I don't know how many of you are old enough to have seen Randall Cunningham play, but I can invision Cam being the same type of player, and maybe even better than he was. I can promise you that defenses hated playing against Cunningham because you could have a play defensed perfectly and he would still move the chains on you.

doesn't mean we can't come up with crazier schemes.

seriously, you put this guy in the pistol offense with the guys we have now and you will see DCs having migraines all over the league.

we get the right OC and QB coach in here to work with him and build an offense around this guys tools, while polishing on areas that he obviosuly needs to grow in and you will see an offense that will be pretty spectacular. from what i have seen and heard, his work ethic is pretty high up there. that was something that vick never had as a younger player. vick was very limited as to what he would learn because of his laziness. that isn't the case with newton.

I agree with folks who say that Newton will need work and frankly if we don't have a good OC and quarterback coach, he could end up like Vince Young.

All of my comments about his potential assume that he gets good coaching, wants to work hard to be the best and has a good work ethic. All things that Vick lacked in Atlanta and he still made the pro bowl. What makes Vick good in Philly is good coaching and after going to prison he is finally serious about learning how to be a good quarterback.

If Newton is serious then he would be well worth the pick. If he isn't, then I don't want him. At this point I want to hear more about him and his potential before making up my mind. But from a talent point of view he is the best player in the draft at QB now that Luck is gone.

Dude, Cam Newton is about 6'6" 250lbs...there aren't many LBers in the NFC South that are as big as him, much less with the ability to run with him.

Curtis Lofton is 6 ft 242, Sean Weatherspoon is 6'1 240, Barrett Ruud is 6'2 241. They aren't as tall, but they are about as big. And as a spy, they don't have to run with him, they will already be downfield. They just have to take a good angle. Look I'm not taking anything away from Newton, but he isn't going to run through linebackers like he did in college.

Wow. Kid looks like he has great, unpolished talent.

In the unlikely event, If the new HC and the front office all got together and talked it out and decided that Moore and Clausen were done in Carolina. Then Cam Newton would be an alright prospect if they were sure they had/could bring in a qb coach that knows how to work/develop a qb like Newton (Duel threat from a spread offense).

Okay, I'm sold... the guy is such a freak athlete that I would be willing to take a chance on him.

The main criticism is that he plays in a spread offense and doesn't have to make many reads, but that doesn't mean he can't do any of that and with his natural ability imagine if he could?

That is the question we' ll have to wait to find out.He does only have one season at divison 1 level, but should we skip out on his ovious superior talent because of that?
