McShay Says Gabbert is a Possibility for Us Now, as Well as Fairley or Bowers

Yea like you said Mallett is much more of a off field concern then Newton is.

Same concept, same formations, same idea. The only difference is that you have a 6'6 250 LB QB back there with a arm of Manning and the speed of a NFL RB. I mean why wouldnt a coach take advantage of that.

I wouldn't say he has NFL RB speed

And no thanks to Bowers. We have Johnson and Hardy with 2 capable backups. Even if Bowers is the next Peppers, we have much bigger needs in other areas with players just as potentially good (CB, DT). Or we could work on our offense (which is far and away our biggest need) with a stud WR or take a risk on a QB. Any of those 4 options I'd rather go over taking Bowers when our DE corps is more than sufficient.

That's what kills me about Bowers. If this were a draft where we had the luxury I would love to pick that guy up. He's a stud. But we have Johnson and the rotation on the other side does ok, and without a good DT or two, we don't really know what we have in Hardy yet. Maybe even the Brown supadupaspinmove could be effective with a decent interior. Probably still no though.

The best pick would be the safe pick here at number 1. That pick is Patrick Peterson. We play in the toughest passing division in the league, if we place Marshall back at the nickel, we are going to need a shut down corner. Fairley isn't worth taking, he's no Suh that's for sure. We can pick up some DTs in free agency, assuming the new CBA is done by that time.
