2011 Free Agent QB's

This is what I've been wanting the entire time. If we can't get Orton, we need a QB and there is no other way of looking at it. That's when I say we give Jacksonville a call.

Orton is a quarterback that we could build around, a franchise quarterback. Many of the quarterbacks mentioned here are old geezers who might play well, but would most likely retire in the next one-two years.

True... but out of that entire list, (even though DG isn't on the list) Garrard would be the cream of the crop... he's a legit NFL starting QB. I doubt we get him, but he'd be a good fit here...and unlike Jimmy, when pressure comes, Garrard can truck somebody.

If he is released and joins that list, I agree he is the best. I still don't think he's the answer, but he could make us at least competitive while we devlop another. His asking price may be the tricky thing depending on what other teams may be interested. If the price got to high, we may want to invest it on other spots and go for one of the cheaper guys.

Right now there are just a lot of unknowns and hopefully JR was serious about spending money on ofensive coaches that will know how to pick and develop a QB. We are in a tight spot and the turnaround may have gotten a bit longer.

I really don't want to see us trade away another draft pick unless we know it's the guy, not KO. That's the difference in being the Redskins and the Patriots, building through the draft.

wow this thread just gets more and more depressing. still scraping the bottom of the barrel for QBs.

panthers are going to suck for years if this is the best we can do. fans don't need to settle for this mediocrity.

Well what do you propose???? All you're doing is relentlessly shutting everyone's opinion down. :boxing_smiley:

As mentioned, we're not looking for a long term fix from this group, but maybe we can get one of them to play somewhat solid until we find that franchise QB that everyone is crying about...which could come from this draft or in 2012. Its about building the team as a whole to get better, getting the bpa in the draft, and making a few moves to solidify a competent NFL roster. It doesn't happen over night

Isn't it obvious? He's on the Newton bandwagon...our new SAVIOR!

I thought this thread was about the best vet backup option cuz we definitely need one of those. The only debate should be which guys are good mentors and who could play a season at most if necessary.

I've seen Alex Smith make some really impressive throws. Also, looking back, how many big name WRs have the 49ers had outside of their great tight end? Smith has helped make their tight end a great player (reminds me of Delhomme doing enough to help Smith be the elite player he used to be).

If AJ Green is as good as people say (he probably isn't) then he Steve Smith and Gettis/Lafell make up an athletic receiving core. Assuming we can get a healthy Otah next year and draft a solid starting OL player, I could see that being a decent offense.

Shaun Hill is the other realistic option. Vince Young has too many off the field issues while Mike Vick will cost too much and has no reason to leave Philly.

Also Peyton is a free agent. Didnt think he would leave Indy so didnt list him but I am beginning to think he might be available for the right price. He is 35 and him and Caldwell dont seem to be on the same page. We could get another 3 years out of him. The question would be would he be willing to come to the Panthers and would Indy be willing to take him for the first pick?

come on man. why would he leave there for here? (he'll get the tag if he doesn't sign...he will). They were the only team to give him a shot, no chance he walks.

well, he did come out and say Carolina was where he wanted to go.

but at this point it's like saying "Oh wait, yes I will date you" after you reject someone and then they get rich.

irsay and polian are never going to get rid of Peyton, they'll fire Caldwell before they let Manning loose, the guy is pretty much ingrained in that franchise's heritage and they will do everything they can to keep him

vick is unlikely to play anywhere but philly too

face it the best we're going to do here is get 2-3 years at most out of Kyle Orton which we will have to pay ridiculous money for, who's proven nothing in this league other than the fact that he can compile chunks of passing yardage
