2011 Free Agent QB's

fixed.

won't have to hire team shrinks to deal with his meltdowns and a life coach to help his self confidence. too much payroll involved.

Right, we need to hire a full time parole officer instead ;) Not to mention a full time fingerprint squad, extra security cameras, and install safes instead of lockers.

Oh and for the last time, I'm NOT advocating BUILDING a team around VY. He's a stop-gap QB. That's all. There is no one worth building a team around out from what's on that list. So you are right, I also hope to God we don't build a team around VY, but we can certainly use him for a couple of years to get us some Ws.

I totally agree...even though he's 34, he could be a strong filler for a year or two until we nab a potential franchise QB in the draft. And yeah, he's played well virtually every time he's been given a chance. Shaun Hill, Gradkowski, and Dennis Dixon are the other ones I see fitting ok.

People should know we're not trying to find a long term fix from this group but a viable QB that can at least give the offense life until we find that QB that will fit in our future. One of these vets plus a new draft pick and Clausen with a new offensive staff...there's gotta be some positive to come out of it.

Well said. We mainly need a vet backup to mentor, but if neither Clausen or our draft pick is ready Volek would be a great partial season/1 season starter.

I don't get why people ignore his success so much, if he were a career panther with those numbers he'd be the greatest QB in Panther history.

What about giving Alex Smith a fresh start? He is still young but experienced enough to be considered a vet. It's not like he is Carr bad. Could he turn into something?

Not saying I'm on board, just thinking out loud...

I agree with ya. I think a lot of Smith's poor performance has been the revolving tree of coaches he's had to adapt to along with the crappy WR's San Fran has had over the previous years.

I'd take him.

i can't believe there are still people who believe volek would ever amount to anything. strangest bandwagon ever.

I can't believe there are still people who ignore facts and stick with outdated opinions

besides, our stable of QB's all have career ratings well above 84.5, we can do better

funny when you use the word outdated in refering to people's opinion of him when the guy is outdated himself and well past the imaginary prime people on his bandwagon believe existed.

I think Shaun Hill played better than Alex Smith while with the 49ers, so I'm just not sure about that option. Hill has been on some pretty bad teams, yet he did make some plays. Maybe with our run game and improved line play, it could at least be an upgrade.

None of those realistic names are dominant, but Hill, Volek and Bulger/Hasselbeck would be the better options to replace Moore, leaving the 3rd spot open for a draft or trade option and hoping Jimmy develops.

The list itself is pretty bad and hopefully we can get a staff in that can develop a QB, Jimmy or someone else for the future. The team clearly needs veteran leadership.

Of course if McNabb could be had without breaking the bank for about 2 years, he could be a nice presence for the team.

it depends on who our choice is for QB long term and the type of offense they are running.

i like mcnabb to be there for newton. more just because i think he would be a great mentor for him.

if we are going to stick with clausen, then we better at least try to play some sort of WCO and then bring in someone like hass to show him the ropes.

if it was going to be luck, my top choice would have been pennington more for his brain than anything else.

I agree. The type of vet we bring in needs to match the type of offense we are running and whom we are planning to be the young/future QB.
