The Boston Celtics retained his rights for during his senior season, and then he came out the next season and became a legendary NBA player.

Would you draft Andrew Luck this year, knowing that you will have burnt your #1 pick for a whole season, but you will get him guaranteed the following year?

You would have his rights, to have or trade, but he is a risk because of injury.

Would you take him this season anyways?

I would.

I do believe NFL rookies can re-enter the draft the very next season if they do not sign with the team that picked them... I remember Crabtree threatening to do this.

only problem is crabtree declared for the draft. he thus would have not been able to go back to school for a year which andrew luck would never do.
