Nic Fairley has got to be our next choice.

It's just such a hard spot to be in, now I wish we had the #2 or #3 pick. I like Fairley and he feels a much needed hole, but I also like Green and Peterson I just don't know if I like any of them as the #1 pick. It should be an interesting draft to say the least I am just not sold on taking Newton with the first pick, so any of the other 3 I am okay with. As much as I don't like Orton I would welcome him with open arms if we could get him. He is not flashy but can get the ball down the field and not turn it over.

addressing it doesn't mean you have to use the #1 pick. You can't predict the NFL. Washington didn't think they would have McNabb, Chicago Cutler, Denver Orton, etc. Carolina needs to be aggressive when an opportunity presents itself.

No, but by using the number one pick, you present more options for yourself.

If we take Green, then Smitty becomes trade ammunition, etc..

Orton ain't the key. A good OC/offensive scheme is. McDaniels as flawed as he is can coach/scheme an offense.

I used Orton because the poster I was responding to had mentioned Orton.

Either way, Richardson has made it clear we're focusing on improving the passing game.

Whose to say they couldn't do the same with Orton here as was done in Denver?

We're going to have to take a chance on a guy this offseason, whether that's a rookie, a veteran like Kolb/Orton, or so on..

The only options are taking a chance, or hoping for the best with Clausen.

If taking a chance pays off..we could have a good football team next year.

wow that's a bad idea. you're essentially trading a first for matt moore.

There are some people that would love for Matt Moore to start again . This does not include me, fyi.

If we are trading a first in 2012, we better be getting a DT with our pick and a QB for the pick we are trading for.... in the draft this year.

Kolb is way better than Moore and would actually give us a shot at having a solid pass offense next year.

Philly wouldn't trade him for a single 1st round pick though, Vick is getting old and he's their future.

It would take more than that to wrestle him out of their hands.

I wish people would stop acting as if Moore is even an average QB.

The guy blows hard.

Only people here in Carolina think he has any future in the league.

Hmm I don't think selecting Green means Smith is gone. It just means we took the best available guy on our board. JR is tight with Steve he's not gonna trade him unless Smith demands it. Smitty has always said he wants help.

I mean I guess it's possible in a numbers game but if you factor in what Smith means to the franchise, the fans, and to JR I just don't see it. Though I agree that Smith, Green, Gettis, LaFell, and Edwards... that's a lot of talent and you won't be able to get the ball all of those guys.

If we got Green and kept Smith I'd have no problem with Moore. It would be hard to fug up with a WR core like that.

Fairley fits the biggest need on the team, barring QB. And in the few Auburn games I have seen, he is a dominant pass rusher who is solid against the run. Basically he is exactly what this defense needs...no matter the scheme (other than 3-4).

My question about the comparison between him and last years top DT's is, is the reason that some don't think he is at the same level because he's only done it one year while they dominated for multiple seasons? Or are there specific factors that you see him deficient in? Or is it simply the fact that the talking heads say he's not as good, and you really can't say for yourself?

The reason I ask is because he looked just as good as McCoy to me (IMO, Suh is on another level than both). So I don't get what others find fault with.

There are a lot of quality DT's we can get in FA and there are some guys that can be had later in the draft. I think we should try to get someone special with the 1st pick. The "Peppers" of his kind type of dude.

But I'm not sure there is a "Peppers" of this draft. And despite the Green hype, he is not the sure thing CJ was coming out. There is some concern about Green's ability to get off the line against NFL defenses, and I even read one analyst talk about him not getting the kind of separation you would expect from an A+ prospect.
