My vote for who we should take #1, Patrick Peterson

I wouldn't be mad if we took Peterson or Green. Both will be great players. I think our offense struggled so much because of position coaches and playcalling. If we get the right Coordinator we could actually turn into a decent offense, decent enough to win games. With Davis coming back we will have IMO the best linbacking core in the entire league. I know it's a pipe dream, but I want us to go after Richard Seymour because he would make our front 7 one of the best in the league.

With the departure of mediocre Richard Marshall, we need someone to fill in the hole at CB. Peterson is without a doubt the best prospect at CB the league has seen in years, he would be sick in Carolina.

I would love Peterson. I'm torn between him and Fairley...Fairley fits a much bigger need while Peterson is a better prospect...

I really don't want A.J Green since we've invested in WR last year...

Mods, check to see if ItsPatone278 is a dupe account. I'm sure he is...

The thing that makes Peterson more valuable, to me, than AJ Green, is the fact that he's a stand-alone player.

AJ Green is in a position where someone needs to constantly get him the ball. He isn't a kick returner, so he doesn't have the same opportunities as Dez Bryant in Dallas to create plays.

Peterson, however, has the ability to create plays without relying on what Clausen, or Moore, or any other QB.

Also, I would not have Peterson returning kicks, because if we get him with the #1 pick, he's going to be worth so much money, that getting him hurt on a return play would be idiotic.

If I already wasn't completely sold on Peterson over Green, then you just did it for me. You're absolutely right.

If Green is as special as he looks to be, it will automatically help whoever is behind Center look better.

Bring in a solid stop-gap. Surround him with talent until we can nab our own franchise QB. Sign one of the many good Free Agent Corners that will be available this offseason.

Why would we address a position that can be addressed through some other means, when we have positions that can't..?

Yeah, that's not true. A CB is only as good as his pass rush.

Wide receiver is not a position that needs to be addressed right now, though.

Our needs are QB, DT, CB, really, and then some good depth on the OL imho.

Do you know that?

Smith will be 32. Neither Gettis nor LaFell are proven, and neither of them possess the elite potential Green does.

Stocking up on weapons is the best we can do to help our QB until we can find a franchise one. That doesn't look to be there this year, so find a good stop-gap until one does surface.

I'd love to see some elite pass catching TE's make it as well..

It's like I said in the other thread, we have the potential to be good THIS year and ON INTO the future.

By taking a QB this year, you risk sacrificing now, and hope for the best in the future.

With a rookie QB taken early, your committing yourself to him for a handful of years, as for the argument against Peterson, well as I said before, that position can be addressed through other means easily.

I said nothing about taking a rookie QB in that post. We have other big needs, too, including DT and CB (though I don't know I want ot take Peterson)

We have 1 veteran receiver and 3 guys coming off of rookie seasons. Drafting a 4th young receiver seems like a bad idea... seems better to go to FA for a decent veteran to help Smitty out a bit if we're not convinced our WRs are any good.

Eh. We'll see. AJ Green would be a neat pickup but I'm just not convinced it's necessary yet.

I assumed that since you listed QB as a need, that that is what you meant.

And I never said that are current Receivers weren't any good, but they don't have the level of potential Green does.

My thinking is to attain an overwhelming amount of firepower as to overshadow shortcomings in our QB-keep in mind-I'm hoping Clausen isn't that QB, but rather a capable veteran.

Green is a better prospect than Peterson, so that's why I carry the belief we should take him.

Now if guys like Sidney Rice make it to FA, and guys like Bailey and Jonathan Joseph don't. Then sign Rice and take Peterson, but I envision much better defensive prospects coming available than offensive.

Be active in Free Agency is the main thing, and let that determine what we do in the draft. Not vice-versa.
