Mr. Scot

Most if the time it hurts you in the wallet though. Rookie pay scale will be in full effect next year and he may get a 3rd of what he could this year. Im sorry but if its between winning the 100million lotto and the 30 million I will take the 100 thank you.

Rookie pay scale would have gone into effect this year.

Scott Fowler joins in too: No hard feelings, Panthers

The Carolina Panthers didn't scare Andrew Luck away.

His father, West Virginia athletics director Oliver Luck, kept assuring me of that Thursday afternoon when we talked by telephone.

Andrew Luck's final decision to quarterback Stanford at least one more year rather than turn pro was based purely on staying in a place he loves, playing beside teammates he adores and getting the degree he covets, the elder Luck said. It wasn't a snub of Carolina, which planned to take him in April with the No.1 overall pick.

"His mom and I talked to Andrew a lot the past 48 hours," Oliver Luck said, "and it was pretty obvious that in his gut he already knew what he wanted to do. The two decisive factors were the bond he has with his teammates and the fact he sincerely enjoys the academic challenges at Stanford. It's kind of old-school, I know, but he went to college with the idea of not leaving until he got a degree."

So the Panthers' 2-14 season wasn't a factor? Owner Jerry Richardson's rambling news conference Tuesday wasn't a factor? The Panthers' uncertainty at most positions - including the offensive line that would block for Luck and the wide receivers he would throw to - wasn't a factor?

"No, no and no," Luck said. "Not a bit. Even the collective-bargaining agreement issue and the lockout - I don't think it had any effect. I'm a lawyer (as well as a former NFL quarterback), and I followed all the CBA stuff. I'm well-versed in it.

"I told Andrew all the basics. He listened. And I don't think it ultimately mattered. The external stuff just didn't. He just wanted to stay where he was comfortable, go to college and hopefully win a Pac-10 championship with his cohorts at Stanford."

This is the first thread I've opened on the huddle this evening/morning....I assume from a few of the posts, that the huddle had a melt down during one of it's very typical over reactions.

The kid is doing the smart thing. He's doing what is important to him. He obviously has better values than the majority.

He isn't going to miss out on any money. He's going to make more than he can spend, regardless of when he comes out. He's also going to mature and improve another year.

I've read most fans opinions as to why they think luck has no reason to go back to school. The only thing I thought as I read those posts, is how incrediblyy biased our fans are being.

Yes, it sucks to miss out on a player like him, but the kid is doing what is right for himself, whether you agree with him

or not.

How you figure that? They haven't come to an agreement on the CBA yet. It could be 2011, or 2012. There has been talk both ways.

If they come to an agreement, the rookie pay scale will be in effect. Pretty much every analyst following the story agrees on that.

The NFLPA is agreeable to it because the older players are sick of seeing money go to unproven guys rather than them. Essentially, both sides want it.

There are other issues of contention, but the rookie scale is pretty much a slam dunk. If the CBA was signed, it would have immediately gone into effect.

If it doesn't get signed, there's not going to be any football anyway, so it doesn't matter.

this may be more of factor as to why luck chose not to come out IMO, most are under the assumption that Luck is turning down a boat load of money. if you are a veteran you want a rookie cap yesterday

In the real world that degree means nothing, and if its so important he could still get it and go Pro this year. Jimmy Claussen is at Notre Dame right now finishing up his degree.

Its the college experience he is staying for. You cant get that back once you go pro. He is only 21 let him enjoy his youth.
