Ryan has been able play and take chances and get better year after year.

Flacco has been limited at times and struggles when they handcuff him. Same with Sanchez

Bradford had a great start, but once teams got him on film, he started struggling but was still able to play and get better.

Clausen was given no shot and no chance, he was handcuffed all season and he sucked all season. Fox and Davidson didn't even try to work with him. He did prove he was not as NFL ready as so many people thought, but if he had a staff that had worked with him, I really believe we would have seen improvement in his rookie year.

you all raise fine points, however, the big thing with clausen that I noticed this year was the fact that he showed absolutely 0 progress. 0. none. he sucked all year and got no better. if he improved with some game experience then i would be singing a different tune, but he didn't. he might have been in a position to fail, but he showed no resilience to try and succeed.

he took no chances and threw nothing but check downs and quick slant passes. that's all he did in college too, which also leads me to believe that he was over-hyped to poo and his stats were padded tremendously. I really don't have much faith in him improving whatsoever. maybe he might, but i'm positive he isn't the long term solution to our QB woes.

I agree with this. Our next coaches will help determine how good he can be. I think Gruden would help him and our offense the most. I wont make any excuses for his play, but I will say that everyone sucked. Smitty had numerous dropped passes, our line blew and our running game never developed. Lack of chemistry held us back, that may or may not have had something to do with Clausen, we will never know for sure.

The more I have been thinking about it, maybe Gruden would be good for the team. For Clausen, Moore and Pike. The only problem with Gruden in my mind is when he gets frustrated with a player he pulls him too quickly.

You guys must have been watching different footage than me this season. He had plenty of chances, he just blew all of them except a couple wide open passes to Jeff King that most high school QBs could have hit.

I think some of that lack of respect came from Fox and Davidson. They had no faith or trust in him and that filtered down to the players.

could be, but i don't think clausen made it easy on himself. he was seen as cocky coming in and never seemed to mesh with anyone. that's either everyone else's fault or his.

I truly feel a final decision on Clausen can't be made until we get a good QB coach and OC in here to give us a real view on his potential.. throw in the fact that he is a rookie QB... it's just impossible for me to form an opinion, and granted, he looked like poo this year.. there is no doubt about that..

This is a big reach, but, Who knows? Maybe the horrible coaching was deliberate? The worse Clausen looked the more sympathy goes out to Fox and his staff, nationwide. That means I think the rest of the player on Off. have no Confidence in Jimmy.

We all know smith doesn't.

I could see that alot of the Olinemen were pissed that even when they made a good block Jimmy pocket presents would end up in a sack he didn't have 2 take.

The rest of the WR were looking back at Jimmy on alot of plays because

1. He was 2 affraid 2 throw them open or take a chance.

2. He wasn't finding open wr.

3. Even his check downs sucked because he get the ball knock down by dlinemen.

Maybe I'm wrong but Jimmy is going 2 have alot working not only proving himself 2 FO but 2 all the men in the Huddle with him and he might have ruined his realationship with all of them.

Seems that everyone forgets that Matt Moore played significantly better than Clausen, even in his worse games, he still managed to move the ball down the field. Out of sight, out of mind I suppose. Despite the picks the offense was actually more successful overall than when Jimmy ran it. Yes hes a rookie, yadda yadda, we expect rookies to suck, yadda yadda, he had no help, yadda yadda. Clausen and Moore were both terrible, but if I had to choose the choice is so obvious its almost funny.

Clausen sucking along with the team of "Not talent players", is one of the reasons Fox is still considered nationally as a "good coach", even though teams don't exact seem to be lining up to interview him.

I hope this year has taken him a few steps down in his career. This past year and the one in '09. In '09, didn't we field like 21 of 22 starters from the 12-4 season? I'm glad to see that the big wigs from other teams are doing their research and possibly looking deeper into Fox instead of going off the media hype.
