2011 Panthers Offense: Vince Young, Moore, Clausen, AJ Green, S.Smith, Lafell/Gettis!

Young had a record of 30-17 and was offensive rookie of the year just 4 years ago. It is crazy to rule out that given the right situation he could be one of the better QBs in the NFL. Again though.. Its probably silly to even debate this because its almost beyond unlikely that it would even be a possibility. The idea of Him and Green with a our O-line Healthy, with Talented Backs like Stewart and Goodson could be a model for success. And the best part about it is that the players are young. If you can keep him from disappearing on his family and friends.. keep him out of strip club offices.. keep him from throwing his helmet and pads into the stands.. you may just have a top 10 QB.

Hey if we still had Fox, I bet we could. We worked wonders on Smith. This club shaped him up real nice in the end.

I really do think we can do that with some players. Not convicted fellons like Vick, but problem guys that are just simply immature, and have not quite grown up all the way yet, well we seem to have a knack for them. We already succeeded with Smith, working on Clausen, so Vince would fit right in AND fit the mold!

I don't see why some say it would be the worst team. That passing offensive line-up is better than anything the Panthers have put out over the past 5 years. I would actually be excited about Vince throwing to Smith and Green with Lafell and Gettis waiting to pick up the slack. And when our O-line bails out on him, at least we know Vince still has the ability to take off and run.

Really, considering our choices, we should consider ourselves lucky to have him while we can still get some miles out of him. Carson Palmer you say? More expensive and less potential than Young.

Good lord almighty :frown2:

Young is a head case.

Jeff Fisher is not racist.

The team stays far away from guys with character issues.

It's not happening, and we don't need a dozen more threads suggesting it.

Joke right?

Our elite WR and our starting QB would like to say hi to you, and one is going to punch you in the eye, while the other one will tell you how great he is causing you to punch him in the eye!

This team doesn't stay away from guys with character issues. They stay away from guys with FELONY records.

Smith got his issues after he was already here, and even there he's been disciplined a time or two. Were he not the player he is, he'd have been gone.

On the flip side, Dwayne Jarrett, Jarrod Cooper, Chris Terry, Curtis Whitley and others.

If we wouldn't even consider Terrell Owens, what makes you think we'd take Vince Young?

Vince Young doesn't fit into the second group you mentioned. Not by a long shot. Vince young is a talented QB with issues just like Steve was a talented WR with issues, and with the right guidance can turn out OK.

I don't see Vince Young as trouble, but rather, troubled. Just like Smith.

It's all about the coach here, and clearly Fisher is not the right guy to coach Vince. But that doesn't mean a change of atmosphere and a different personality can't do better with a guy like Vince.

We're not talking about a receiver, a runningback or a corner here. This is a quarterback. A big part of that job is leadership.

If you think Young can be a leader, you might want to consider the fact that ESPN reported his teammates didn't want him back either.

In point of fact, nobody at the Titans wanted him back except the owner, and once that fact was explained to him, he gave in.

That's not a guy I want to have to depend on to be a leader.

I seem to remember most of the offensive players on the Titans coming to VYs back... I think it was Bo Scafie to be exact who spoke out during the season about it. VY won in Texas and he has a winning record in the NFL. I won't disagree that he is a troubled man, but the Panthers are in a situation where it would be wise to fully explore anyone who would even come close to being considered a franchise QB. Sometimes just a simple change of scenery is all a person needs to get back on the right track, and coming to the Panthers would be more than that.

I'd rather have Vick honestly. He would make our offense unstoppable. There would be just way too much speed on our offense, especially if we got Green. But I'm still kinda pissed over the dog thing.

Vick isn't coming.

But Young IS the next best thing. He is a proven Cam Newton which is our other option.

Did our team want Steve back after he punched his teammate in the face? NO. We didn't either. Things change.

Mr. Scot I take you to be a man of reason and logic. So please, look at the reality. Our leaders are currently Clausen, Moore and Pike.

-Clausen is NO leader, and he may not be ready for yet another year to fill that role. That's evident.

- While Moore could fill that role, we have no clue how he's going to look after surgery and if we are really going to re-sign him.

- That leaves Pike. Nothing to see here so let's just move on.

What do we have left? The draft?

-Newton? He's an unproven version of VY with more serious legal issues that would probably cost first draft money. VY has issues but at least he does have experience and proven winning record.

-Locker? We don't have a second round pick, and we're probably not going to go for him.

That leaves off-season. Out of all the off-season candidates we currently know of, who is a better fit? Honestly!

And I certainly wouldn't want to BUILD a team around a guy like Newton, but a guy like Vince Young could be a good stop-gap for 2-3 years until we really do find our next franchise QB.

I have never been big on VY, I tend to like traditional pocket QB's, but when looking at the facts he just seems like the logical choice if we can get him. Vince is a solid all around starter day 1. The only other guy you can say that about is coming back from surgery and needs to be re-signed.
