Justify why Cam Newton isn't worth #1 overall?

I don't think "ignore character" will ever be the something else JR tries.

We'll see. Oregon could thrash newton so bad nobody wants to touch him in the first round entirely, or he could destroy them so convincingly he jumps to the easy #1 and then we can start fawning over him.

Ultimately there just isn't a clear #1 anymore.

That may still happen, Pantherj.

I just think it's more likely he won't even get that much of a look.

That could change, though, especially with a good performance in the championship.

I trust that the Panthers will make every effort to actually meet Cam in person. Talk with the man, and hear his side of the story. Meet with his family, friends, talk with his teammates and coaches. Interview the people who don't like him. See what school officials have to say. Leave no stone unturned, and then make a character evaluation. Never rely on a snap judgement.

go ahead and hate on and keep those narrowminded mindsets that has you thinking exclusively along color lines,

seriously what?

f**k dude don't go down that route.

people can think a spread option QB with a certain style won't translate well into the NFL without thinking of his race.

people can think JR won't want to bring in someone with character questions without thinking of his race.

By the way, aren't the Huddle's two favorite players Jon Beason and Steve Smith? Jon Beason was arrested for assaulting a dude in a strip club and 89 seriously injured two teammates in assaults. Yet Richardson has kept both of them around hasn't he? Both of them seem to have significantly more "character issues" than Cam Newton.

when people stick to comparing him to VY, jamarcus russel, and vick...there's a problem.

he isn't any of those guys.

and playing primarily in a spread offense isn't as much of a drawback as it used to be.

If Beason had assaulted that dude prior to being drafted, the same people would have been opposed to drafting him. And yet I think he's turned out just fine, wouldn't you agree?

I doubt JR would have drafted him if the assault had happened before the draft.

Smith certainly wouldn't have been drafted if he'd fought with his college teammates like that.

JR may draft him, who knows. They are not major character issues. There is just fear of what they could become.

I honestly think Newton could become a #1 draft pick talent. I don't know if Gabbert could ever get that high. If JR really wants to revamp the team image, offense is the way to go this draft... going Fairley would help the team a lot but you don't often build an image around a DE.

I don't know why people compared him to them. I think you could just as well compare him to any other big bust QB with character issues coming out of college of the last decade or so... and there have been plenty of pasty white dudes too.

I don't want to get my hopes up for someone who has no shot getting here is all... and I kinda feel like he doesn't.

We'll see - anything is possible.
