Justify why Cam Newton isn't worth #1 overall?

dude, he didn't steal the laptop.

and your comparisons with young are weak.

I am sorry, he was arrested for burglary and larceny. He threw the lap top out of his dorm room because he was innocent. Looks like the DA reduced it to receipt of stolen goods. Couple that with bribery and he is your regular boy scout. Let's invest our future in a guy like this. Sounds like a great idea to me.

How are my QB comparisons to Vince Young weak? Tell me why Cam Newton is not Vince Young 2.0 without the pro experience?

JR said we are fixing the QB position. There is a very high chance we draft a QB this year.

clearly that means we're getting Manning from Indy. You read it here first!

but yeah I think QB is where we go, just dunno if it's Newton. I have this feeling that they were invested in Luck but knew he may not come out.

Me being flat honest here, I'm not on the Cam Newton express for one reason and one reason only. He is a first read not open, take off kind of QB. sure it's cute and fun to watch in college, but it really doesn't work in the pros. He has very sound, (almost great) throwing mechanics in the pocket, he steps towards his receivers, has a cannon, and can throw with touch.

having said that though, he will not get the one on one match ups that he has been getting with his receivers in the pros. Can he read a Defense well? If so, can he do it from under center while dropping back? is his pocket awareness good enough for him to not bail on a play when pressure gets near him before he takes off running? A QB running in the NFL should be a last ditch effort to gain positive yards if your receivers aren't open, not plays 1-35 in your playbook.

Physically speaking, Newton is near the top of the draft class (If he declares). But for me there are just too many questions surrounding him regarding the way he reads a D and if he can be a pocket passer first, and a scrambler second, not the other way around. This speculation is based on previous players with similar skill sets, not a personal vendetta against Newton.

bribery? lol. whatever.

as a passer he's like big ben. he runs because he can, but he can do just fine without it. he uses it just enough to open up the passing game. as a runner he's like a runningback and can be just as effective...even moreso because of his threat as a passer.

VY is a flat out headcase with a fragile psyche. cam has been tested much more and scrutinized more than VY ever was in college. he will be much more confident in his abilities.

now you tell me how he is VY 2.0.

Ok seriously you can't say what you said about VY and then turn around and back Newton and expect to be taken seriously. Clearly, there's no objectivity in your argument.

And you are right, there is no comparison. VY is a problem athlete who has proven he can put up respectable back to back winning records as a starter and is NFL ready despite his problems. Newton doesn't have any of those accomplishments....just the bad ones!

Newton looks like an expensive problem, while VY looks like a modest solution.

PFFL you were way funnier when you were all over Matt Moore.

I am concerned about this, too, which is why I want to see him use his arm to beat Oregon and not his legs.

I couldn't tell if you were describing Vince Young or Cam Newton so there goes your answer. You are one of the only people in the country that isn't comparing VY and CN.

I agree VY is a head case. CN appears to be a VY 2.0 as I said before. How many kids in their early twenties have burglary, larceny, receipt of stolen goods, and bribery on their resume? As they say, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Cam will have more legal issues in his future.

So were you when you were all over Clausen  Tsk tsk tsk. And it looks like my prediction that Matt Moore could come back, is a likely possibility. Not only that, but there are people calling for that now! Go figure!

how does Cam Newton appear to be VY2.0?

Have we had any evidence of Newton showing lack of effort? Quitting on his team mates?

Did VY have similar infractions in college to Newton?

Where's the comparison coming from?

I would call getting kicked out of Florida "quitting on your team mates" and certainly what he did prior to going to Auburn put himself in a position to quit again or more appropriately be asked to leave or get suspended. People here really live in a dream world if you think someone that is 21 or 22 can have all of this stuff and be squeaky clean.
