Jerry Richardson had an interesting interview with Tommy Tomlinson today

For those of you thinking JR is out of touch with the modern NFL:

He’s planning to change the Panthers’ philosophy. For years the team leaned on a tough defense. But now he says the NFL is so offense-oriented that offensive coordinators and quarterback coaches are nearly as important as head coaches. Richardson said the Panthers will hire a new head coach first, but then go hard at offensive assistants. And no matter the coaches, he says the Panthers are going to open up.

“The NFL has changed, in the last five years, dramatically,” he said. “We would be foolish not to stay in sync with that… We didn’t score enough points. First thing, they (fans) want us to win. But after that, they want us to score points and they want excitement.”

But I'm glad to see JR acknowledging that it's time for a philosophical change... as far as communicating with fans, I think it would be smart for JR to do a blog on panthers.com where he can more succinctly organize and communicate his thoughts.

He knew he was going to beat on the press a little bit in the press conference so I think his ramblings about email, cell phones and blondes were an attempt to be disarming and take some of the sting out of his criticism, but it just came off as confusing and a little bit creepy.

Bottom line, I still have faith in JR's ability to lead us to the promised land.

...and for those of you arguing that the press conference was not a mess, why would he be apologizing if he thought it went well?

You may have agreed or been entertained with what he was saying, but from a PR standpoint it was a disaster.

I wonder if he had Luck in mind when he stated that or Jimmy..?:D
