Cam Newton looking better and better!

We get it dude... you don't like him. Your going to ignore the good and focus on the bad even if it means stretching the truth.

I recognized both good and bad in my original post. I'm not the person with a Cam Newton #1 signature. I'm just making observations about him for the people who haven't seen him play and have only heard the hype. It just so happened that those same observations I have made were also made by respected professionals.

I don't see anyone saying he should go #1

I am not talking about that play. I gave credit to him for that play in my write up.

If you read my write up I went over play-by-play of the NC game and wrote down my comments. When he's in shotgun he just shuffles his feet and doesn't take a drop. It actually played a role in the sack/fumble because he wasn't in position to make a throw.

What I'm going to ask you to do is go read my play-by-play commentary on the game then find specific plays to dispute and talk about. Don't show me a highlight video, it's called that for a reason. If you don't want to do that you can watch an entire game, make your own play-by-play commentary of at least 10 straight drives and I will read it and go watch the game and we can talk about it.

If not don't tell me that "usually" or "normally" his footwork and accuracy is good because it's not.

Frankly, I don't care nearly as much about the NC game as I do about his body of work. He didn't even look like the same guy in the NC game as he did in his last 5 or so regular season games. And just because you took the time to make you own commentary, that doesn't mean you're right about everything.

I've already pointed out to you that even the pro scouts are constantly wrong about QB's. Somebody named a bunch of 1st round bust QB's in another one of these threads and every single one of them were proclaimed to be NFL ready by NFL scouts...and they were wrong.

Of course, that doesn't mean that the Panthers will put a 1st round grade on Newton, but he is certainly better than you're making him out to be.

He deserves to be a second round pick but will probably get picked in the first, just like The Golden Calf of Bristol. Only time will tell how good he will be. To ignore obvious issues is just dumb. If he works hard on those issues he'll be fine. If he doesn't, we've seen what happens.

I think something else a lot of people here are missing is that a second round grade doesn't mean a player can't have a good NFL career. You can say it's disrespect if you want but it just is an evaluation. Once he's drafted, and he will be, he'll have a chance to compete, improve, and win a job almost anywhere he would be taken. I'm certainly not saying NOBODY will touch him anywhere, but he's got many issues to work on which is why IMO he isn't a first round pick.

When you consider that picking a successful QB is a total crapshoot and just recently the 49ers passed over a guy on their own back yard, Aaron Rodgers--who wasn't awesome at Cal btw, for an undersized underclassman at Utah who played in a gimmick offense, had never taken a snap under center, and had practically had "fifth round" stamped on his forehead, I'd say we really couldn't tell for sure which of the guys in this draft currently is going to pan out. Luck was such an easy choice and with him going back to school our FO is really going to need to do their jobs.

That being said, Cam probably has the most to work on of the guys available and I wouldn't be surprised at all if Gabbert and Pat Devlin were the best QBs in this draft five years down the road.

You know, Luck kind of reminded me of Delhomme in the Orange Bowl on a couple of occasions. When he got heavy pressure, he pretty much panicked and threw the ball right to a VT defender a couple of times. One of them ended up being batted by VT and caught for a safety by an O-lineman, and the other was just plain dropped by the VT DB.

My point? You can find flaws with any QB if you want to bad enough. Although, those two plays I just described pretty much stood out on their own.

It's interesting to that so many people are judging Cam on just how he played in the NC game against Oregon.

The same Oregon team team that shut out Luck in the second half of their game and made him look just average in the second half of their game.

The NC game did nothing for me but solidify how good and effective Newton will be as a pro.

One BIG difference? remember how much we have struggled on third and 2's and third and 3's. His size and mobility is the great equalizer in those situations.

I don't really have a plan yet. There is a lot still up in the air. If the FO just sins a FA then I also think they bring back Moore and he probably wins the job since no FA is better.

If they go the trade route, obviously the guy they trade for is going to get a good shot at the starting gig.

I wouldn't be disappointed if our QB depth chart went Moore/Vet/Clausen. Any vet we bring in is not going to be good enough to beat out Moore & have enough of that "Vet experience" that everyone talks about.

We really don't have many choices.

Only way he starts over Moore is if Moore isn't given a chance. They really aren't close in talent as all reports indicated.

Moore doesn't have a contract does he? I think I remember he signed his 1 year tender for this past season, so that leaves him a FA. I wonder how his injury is going to affect his throwing ability.

He is a free agent but my assumption is that the best QB on the roster will be resigned.

For his injury, it's the least severe of all the shoulder injuries so that's good I guess. I don't expect there to be any problems with that.
