So who's next? Searching for a Carolina QB

Gabbert reminds me alot of Josh Freeman it will be rough at first, but in the 2 years may be worth it! Gabbert will be a great player as long he can have the time to grow under a veteran and a Good OC! So trade down as far as you can and still take Gabbert!

Here's an option I haven't seen talked about, Matt Flynn. He's had the tutelage of a winning QB. He looked good enough in the New England game. If we're not bringing in a vet to hold a clipboard, I think we should go for Flynn.

One game will never be enough to convince m.

I am in full support of finding someone who has shown something in the NFL already and Orton is the only one I'm strongly confident can bring some life to our current sh*tstorm

He's on the trade block. So, the catch is that the only ONLY way I see us getting an NFL QB is trading from the roster and not draft picks. I just can't see Hurney getting rid of another high draft pick after what's gone down the last 3 offseasons. Other QBs to consider:

Kevin Kolb

Shaun Hill

Matt Flynn

Dennis Dixon

Billy Volek

Bruce Gradkowski

I really don't fuggin know, but they at least can possibly give us some life. If we get Rivera maybe he'll try to bring the Chargers QB coach along with Volek

Flynn is interesting. Our best shot is to hope for Orton's value to drop a bit. Maybe a 4th or 5th round pick if we're lucky<---stupid word. Teams are getting stingy with pick so I doubt they will give up a 2nd rounder for him.

Someone I'd like to keep my eye on is Ryan Fitzpatrick. I wonder if the Bills will draft a QB or if they have full trust in Fitzpatrick to carry the team.

Let's get David Garrard! Jacksonville fans seem to want him gone at the beginning of every year, then fall in love with him midseason... every single season. He's big, smart, can run well... I know he'd love to come back to North Carolina! They already have Trent Edwards...that's who they want at QB. We wouldn't have to give up much to get Garrard. I know it won't happen but it's a fun thought...

Draft Cam, sign McNabb and let him mentor Clausen/Newton helping either one of them for the future.

That is a possibility. I worry that possibility is minimal due to character issues as discussed in another thread.

Gabbert is a possibility, too. I know a lot of us haven't heard of him but the reality is that he is skyrocketing in value right now. He is considered to be the #1 QB now by many scouts.

I think if JR is serious about changing the team's philosophy it has to start in the draft. However, he can accomplish that outside the #1 pick, so we'll see.

McNabb can do for them what he did for Vick.

On some of those mock sites (post Luck's decision) have been saying Gabbert's stock will rise after workouts and the same for Cam. I just hope we look at all options defense and offense get the best player. But as you said all of JR's comments seem to point to him wanting to change the teams style. Will be an interesting offseason to say the least even without Luck.

Gabbert's stock is already ridiculously high on some sites; he's the number 1 QB now for Kiper & McShay. McShay projected him at #5, and that was when Luck was going #1. There is a real possibility he moves up.

Locker is kind of the dark horse. He was expected to battle Luck for the #1 spot all the way. In fact, I think Locker's decline is part of why Luck skyrocketed. Locker has many of the tools, but I worry about another QB that is under 6'3"... though I'm sure his release is better.

Gabbert hasn't taken many snaps under center, which is a problem for him being selected here. However, spread QBs didn't do terrible coming out last year, at least the pass-oriented ones, so you never know...
