So who's next? Searching for a Carolina QB

I know I'm in the minority, but I think that trying to work out a deal for Kyle Orton is the way to go. Some people look at his offensive stats this season and think that this is based simply on fantasy football, and good numbers on a bad team...but the truth is, he's a very solid QB.

The main year he played for Chicago, he ran a very solid ball control offense. He proved this year that he can air it out and put up big numbers when needed as well. Through it all, he's made very few mistakes.

Trying to get Kolb is another option, but I think his pricetag would be too high.

I agree with you, besides I think Orton would be a better pickup than Kolb.. I feel Kolb is more of an unknown for the price tag that the Eagles are definitely going to require..

and if no one is going to offer us anything to trade down we will be forced to reach.. I wouldn't mind a WR, whether we have someone to throw to him or not.. take it as a sacrifice and pick up Orton.. unless of course you think the other QBs are worth the franchise qb label..

oh, and Alex Smith is nothing more than a rookie project.. think of it that way instead of expecting him to step up as a really good QB in the next year or 2..

Im going on the Gabbert Train... just seems like the best alternative, he was said to be the possible number 1 next year.

According to ESPN:

Here's what Kiper had to say in his brief analysis of Gabbert: "Strong arm, good mobility, prototype in terms of physical skills. Ranked all year in my top QBs. Jumps with draft declaration, improved stock."

Matt moore or jimmy clasean they need help if they are going to succeed here in the nfl i haven't lose confidenve in either just yet

I can see you not losing confidence in Jimmy Clausen. I think he has talent, but it's going to take a very long time to refine. But you haven't lost confidence in Matt Moore?

wtf?

Are you insane?

I think Gabbert is a good option but I am considering Cam Newton. I really think Newton can increase his stock substantially between now and draft day.

If he can show his passing ability against Oregon I see no reason why he can't supplant Gabbert. Newton has great accuracy, good mobility, a strong arm...

We'll see. I still want us to go QB, I just don't know for certain that we will anymore.

I'd take Clausen over VY, Orton, old McNabb and Alex Smith.

I'm anxious to see what a new staff can do with Clausen. If they're halfway decent, I think they can help Clausen develop.

For a brief moment against the Falcons in week 17, for a few plays where Clausen seemed to have found his rhythm... he was hitting everyone... then he had that deep int ..and it was "run run check down punt" afterward. Seeing him in rhythm, even if it was only for a few plays and even if he didn't score any points from it, it gave me hope.

If we obviously can't get Luck, I'm down with seeing what Clausen has for another year. This time, build the offense around him.

Here's an option I haven't seen talked about, Matt Flynn. He's had the tutelage of a winning QB. He looked good enough in the New England game. If we're not bringing in a vet to hold a clipboard, I think we should go for Flynn.

the problem is the price of getting these backups could be prohibitive... but Flynn is an interesting idea. Bad against Detroit but he was pretty good against NE.

Clausen...

Seriously, if a coach saw his rookie Qb throwing check down passes 95% of a game, every game, shouldn't the coach go and talk to the rookie qb about it? Tell him that's not how a professional qb is supposed to play. If not Luck. I'd try to develop Clausen. Get him Green. Fix the Oline and hire a qb coach that will work with him.

If he improves, good. If he continues to flounder, then good news also, we get the #1 pick the next season also.

Agreed... why throw a 1st overall away on another ?? QB... rather draft another position of need, try and develop Clausen (whether he pans out or not, we will see), sign a Vet QB and see what happens... worse case we get another high draft pick the following year... even though I don't want to go through another bad season like we just did, I also don't want to draft another QB that we are hoping to just replace Clausen and say "he can't do any worse"... we essentially wasted (as of now) 2 picks on AE (last years pick and this year's 2nd)...
