Some stats:

Year Comp Att Yards Comp % YPA TD INT Sacks Rating

Gabbert 2010 301 475 3186 63.4 6.71 16 9 23 127.03

Mallett 2010 266 411 3869 64.7 9.41 32 12 25 163.65

Locker 2010 184 332 2265 55.4 6.82 17 9 19 124.2

Newton 2010 165 246 2589 67.1 10.52 28 6 21 188.16

Luck 2010 263 372 3338 70.7 8.97 32 8 6 170.16

Obviously since each player comes from a different offense, their numbers mean different things... and Newton's are also buoyed by huge rushing numbers.

Richardson would never go for it, but I truly believe Vince Young could fit in well here. I don't know if that would be our best option, but how could we not think about it? I know his past is awful with his personality and such, but he did produce excitement and wins on the field. He needs to work on his passing skill still, but I think he could work. Michael Vick seemed to be far past his prime, but he's playing better than ever this year, even better than when he rolled over us twice back in 2002. Why not take a shot? What do we have to lose? Just give him a 1-2 year contract like the Eagles gave Vick. If he wants big money then screw him, but take the chance if he's willing to come here for cheap. He may love it here and he could thrive.

I don't get the whole Gabbert is afraid to get hit thing. The dude is a beast in the pocket, and can sling the ball downfield. He has some mobility, yes, but no where near what Luck had.

Gabbert's also said to be one of the most motivated individuals there are. He almost plays with Smitty-esque emotions.

All those things may be true. But, he never steps up into the pocket to let the play develop. He always bails out if he doesn't see anything right away. Not to mention he came from a spread offense.

I'd say wave the #1 pick in front of the Broncos and see if we can get Orton... or hell, let's go get David Garrard (ECU fan in me talking here..)

You want to trade the number 1 pick in the draft for Kyle F***ing Orton....

Go with Orten. He not splashy but he will bring stability to QB Position next season. After that see where Clausen is but we will have more options after next off season. Also the UFL looks like it will be defunct so McCown will be available if we want to try him again.

If you're going to draft a QB now.... You have to draft Cam Newton. 28 passing TD's same as Luck, 20 rushing TDs, almost 4000 all purpose yards, 66% completion percentage, 6'6 - 250 frame, Unanimous Heisman Trophy Winner, and Monday He'll have a National Championship. He wins like The Golden Calf of Bristol, Runs like Vick, and throws like Josh Freeman. (Not to mention Natural Charisma.)

I dont see how that means that He's an automatic bust?

If you're gonna sign Vince Young (which is a horrible idea)..... why not draft Cam Newton? Let him and Jimmy duke it out.

One thing is for sure.... Jimmy Clausen is returning next year with a new coach, a new offense, a healthy line.... and a chip on his shoulder the size of CHARLOTTE. Who knows?

Unless Jimmy develops pocket presence nothing will change.

Newton is very high risk for 50+ mil #1 overall.... And you can;t really put anymore money in that position if it doesn;t work out.
