So who's next? Searching for a Carolina QB

Newton is the biggest trash ever. I don't even know why anyone would ever consider taking him inside the top 5. And for those who think Locker is worth being taken in the first round.... Why would you think that? I've watched many games of his and can tell you he is vastly overrated.

At this point you have to take either Green or Peterson. I really like Gettis and Lafell, but they are not Green. WR prospects like Green rarely come along. And Peterson would obviously come in and play CB with Chris Gamble which would be a tremendous combo.

Cam had a great season and though he was a "system quarterback" he did make some nice plays. I actually hope that Oregon can shut down Auburn's run game so we can see what he can do through the air.

I do not think Cam Newton can be the "next Michael Vick" but he could be the next Ben Roethelisberger... as long as JR doesn't think he has "morality issues" or something.

Sign Peyton Manning!!

But, seriously, here are our options.

In house:

Clausen- rather him sit and learn, be traded or could play us back into the #1 spot again.

Pike- No just NO

Free Agents:

Matt Moore- With some help he can be servicable. Know how to get the ball to Smitty.

Hasselbeck- Vet QB. Stop-gap

Young- Better than any of our options. Good passer and can get yards with his feet. But is mentally unfit.

McNabb- Hasn't had a good year outside of the WCO. But we have a better supporting cast than Washington. Wouldn't mind bring him in if he didn't break the bank.

Hill- Do his share to make the Lions competitive. Like him more as a backup.

Through Trades:

Orton- Had a good year. Has he turned the corner or is he a product of McDaniels offense. If it's the latter bring in McDaniel.

Kitna- Have a very good year with Dallas. Dont know if they will trade him.

Draft:

Mallett- Big arm and is a pure passer. Is a statue in the pocket and is sometimes prone to INTs when the game is on the line.

Newton. Has all the tools. Not really fond of spread QBs though.

Locker- Has all the tool. Still raw and a bit of damaged goods playing with a horrible Washington team. Not worth #1.

Gabbert- Has all the tools. Is afraid to get hit. Could be a Clausen V2.0 always running out of the pocket before letting the play develop.

Choose your poison.

Did Fitzgerald get the Cardinals into the playoffs? Is AJ Green better now than Steve Smith? With this in mind how does drafting AJ Green get us closer to the playoffs?

Remember, WR's routinley take 3 years to "get it". Besides, the WR in South Carolina is just as good if not better. If not a QB then I would go with a shutdown CB as there are two very good ones. That would enable the defense to play more of the cover and blitz that is common in the top defenses.

we just don't have a ton of WR room right now, so I just don't see it. I know we don't want to hear it, but... we do have Smith, Gettis, Lafell, Edwards, and others who all need to get playtime.

Worried about what you said with Mallett and Gabbert. There were times when pressure was applied to Mallett by OSU he looked very Clausen-like. Newton has much more escapability. Locker may still be worth a first rounder but hard to imagine the #1.

I don't get the whole Gabbert is afraid to get hit thing. The dude is a beast in the pocket, and can sling the ball downfield. He has some mobility, yes, but no where near what Luck had.

Gabbert's also said to be one of the most motivated individuals there are. He almost plays with Smitty-esque emotions.

if there's a lockout the draft goes to a lottery I thought?

I think the actual rules would still be up in the air at this time. But I think you are right. If there are no games next year (which is doubtful), some sort of lottery system will likely be in place. I don't think other teams will give Panther's number one pick twice.
