Now what do we do?

I'll ask again: have you spoken with all 31 of the NFL's other GMs? Because it's not unheard of for 2 teams to fall in love with a guy and trade up to ensure they get him. Especially if there's a cap this year, which seems like it could go either way at this point. No, they're not going to get the king's ransom that they could have with Luck, but it's possible that they could sneak a 2nd round pick out of it, depending on the amount of love that the team has for their prospect they want.

You're new to this aren't you....

I agree with OchoNeuve...what team, will want what player, they think the Panthers will pick with that 1st pick? The know their guy will most likely fall to him and if he doesn't, there will be a plan B in place. There is not that stud of a player out there to warrant someone trading up to #1.

When was the last time someone traded the #1 pick down?

Is it 100% positive that no team would trade up. No, but the chances have lowered below the chances of JR hiring Harbaugh at the last minute and Luck coming out. How many times in the last few years has the number one pick actually been traded despite all the stories and rumors that abound before the draft? Last time I recall was Eli's tantrum in forcing a trade. If a new CBA is agreed to by then and a possible rookie cap is in place it might make trading it more possible. But while there is talent in the draft, there is no obvious number one pick that teams will sacrifice for without Luck.

I am going to throw my f***ing laptop against a wall if another person says "oh, simple, just trade down." Here are some fairly obvious facts that some people can't seem to face the reality of:

1. With Luck out of the draft, the Panthers will not be considering a QB with the first pick

2. No NFL team would consider trading the Panthers for the #1 overall pick

3. We don't have a second round pick at this point so the likelyhood of Cam Newton, Gabbart, Mallet, or Jake Locker slipping to the 3rd round are plausible, but unlikely.

4. Clausen will probably be our starter unless we go after a veteran (Kolb, Orton, Tavaris Jackson)

5. We are screwed

Its simple, TRADE DOWN.

1. Bowls aren't over yet.

2. Not everyone has declared yet

3. Pro Workouts and combine aren't even close.

4. You saw what Denver gave up for The Golden Calf of Bristol last year, you never know until the draft what teams are gonna do.

5. Tyrod Taylor will save us :D

and saying we're screwed when its not even July is just pathetic.

Trade down, but stay in the top 5 of the draft, pick up AJ Green. Trade Steve Smith for a 3rd or 4th. Package up a deal to get back in the upper 1st round, possibly including future picks as well, and grab Newton/Mallett/Locker. Pick up Carson Palmer as our vet QB.
