Now what do we do?

I really think we need to focus on defense. Hear me out. We won't be able to fix the offense this year without a QB...so continue to strengthen the defense and then go out and get a vet QB who can come in a get us by. I knew this kind of thing would never happen to this franchise...let's face it everything from kerry Collins to Rae carruth to kicking the ball out of bounds in the super bowl. This franchise is cursed!!!

Do the smart thing and strengthen the defense so we can at least have something to be proud of. AJ Green is another option but really how much is one receiver going to make an impact? Calvin Johnson hasn't helped the Lions but Sue did, you have to have a QB first.

Draft Fairley. You can scheme to put pressure on the QB, but a game-changing DT with Fairley's size and skills is rare. He also seems like the kind of guy where when he's on your team, you love him, but if you play against him, you cuss at the TV all game. I would take him in a cocaine heartbeat.

And to anyone saying "draft Newton" or "trade the pick", I disagree heartily. Newton is only slightly less of a QB project than The Golden Calf of Bristol; his college success is based off his running ability, which will be greatly hampered by the superior size, speed, and gameplanning in the NFL. As far as trading down goes, the only reason the pick was tradable in the first place was Luck. Now you have a mishmash of defensive players, less proven QBs, and AJ Green at the top of the draft. Even though JR would love to trade down and avoid paying #1 pick guaranteed money, it's an unlikely scenario that they would get many fair offers.

Brown may not fit into a new coaches scheme, meeks liked Brown's quick nature. I think Bowers is a real possibility. After all last time they had a high pick they took a local DE and it worked out so well. Kinda liked the last coaching search was a D.C. and you see what they are doing now.

I am going to throw my f***ing laptop against a wall if another person says "oh, simple, just trade down." Here are some fairly obvious facts that some people can't seem to face the reality of:

1. With Luck out of the draft, the Panthers will not be considering a QB with the first pick

2. No NFL team would consider trading the Panthers for the #1 overall pick

3. We don't have a second round pick at this point so the likelyhood of Cam Newton, Gabbart, Mallet, or Jake Locker slipping to the 3rd round are plausible, but unlikely.

4. Clausen will probably be our starter unless we go after a veteran (Kolb, Orton, Tavaris Jackson)

5. We are screwed

I'll ask again: have you spoken with all 31 of the NFL's other GMs? Because it's not unheard of for 2 teams to fall in love with a guy and trade up to ensure they get him. Especially if there's a cap this year, which seems like it could go either way at this point. No, they're not going to get the king's ransom that they could have with Luck, but it's possible that they could sneak a 2nd round pick out of it, depending on the amount of love that the team has for their prospect they want.
