Jack and Thane died, and I'm pretty sure Talia died too. I'm considering renting the game again and getting all the DLC so I can have those extra 2-3 characters.

I didn't lose anyone on my first playthrough. I did all of their missions and upgrades, that's really all you need to survive.

On subsequent playthroughs I've intentionally killed Thane and Jacob though, cause they're dicks.
