Not only would Harbaugh going to Miami prevent Luck from thinking "Hey coach will be near campus next year, I wanna stay!", but it should get him thinking, "Coach just got paid 8 million this year because he's a HOT commodity right now, he wouldn't get that amount of money next year........wait a minute...I'm a HOT commodity right now too!!

Am I the only one who thinks that just sounds fu*ked up. You're going to make an offer to a coach then fire your old coach (while he watches the drama unfold) then make some other poor coach (who has also watched this drama unfold) in for a Rooney interview that means absolutely nothing.

After reading some more it is actually simple what Miami can do

1) Get on phone, or have someone notify Sparano he's fired.

2) Hire Harbaugh

3) Pay fine for violating the RR. Last time it was $200,000

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rooney_Rule

In 2003, the NFL fined the Detroit Lions $200,000 for failure to interview minority candidates for the team's vacant head coaching job. After Marty Mornhinweg was fired, the Lions immediately hired former San Francisco 49ers head coach Steve Mariucci to replace him without interviewing any other candidates. The Lions claimed they attempted to interview other candidates but that the minority candidates withdrew from interviews, believing Mariucci's hiring was inevitable.[7]

Jed York had been quoted as saying that winning was what mattered and thus money was "no object".

Be careful what you say, Jed.

(49er fans will be throwing those words in his face for a long time if harbaugh lands elsewhere)

They are already bitching about this on their board saying stuff like, hey Jed, what happened to money was no object?

so if JR is cheap for not getting into a bidding war, and the 49ers pull out at 6 mill, does that make both our franchises cheap?

Getting outbid by a team willing to make the guy the highest paid coach in the NFL is one thing... Being so cheap that you're not even in consideration and the guy won't return your phone calls is a whole other level...

How quick feelings change....

Panther Fans: Going crazy at the thought of landing this awesome innovative coach.... Then he's going to San Fran he will Fail.

49er Fans: Laugh at us on their message board and talk about how great JH is gonna be.... Now Miami swoops in and they are saying this just 1 hr after praising the guy

Now Miami fans are laughing at San Fran fans.... How quick we can change opinions.

That is what makes this fun! We are all subjective hypocrites

John Harbaugh gets paid $2.5 mil. Steelers paid their SB coach around the same. That's what JR is willing to pay and that's fine. Once John Fox proved himself and did the job he gave him more money. He was pulling in $6.5/year in his last year here.

JR is not cheap, just a smart businessman.
