...1. Overall record as a starter vs playoff teams (2-1) and some could argue we should have won that Dallas game. Sure he didn't have flashy numbers but he didn't have mistakes and the team definitely rallied around him. No experience and not very much time with the team and they seemed to respond well, especially Smitty....

I was at the Seattle game. I think M. Moore played a good game. Managed the team well and got the Victory. I am of the same opinion as you that he does have "IT". He should have won the Dallas game. (5 bad calls all in favor of the CRYGIRLS but that is dead horse) 2-1 or 3-0 is a pretty damn good start.

I didn't go to pre-season so I cannot say one way or the other about M. Moore's progress as a QB. I would believe that Jake was more of a focus than Matt. So the "Poor Offseason" to me wasn't a factor and IMO he will be the next in line to lead the Panthers.

On a side note. At one point the QB for Alabama was being touted as a sure fire NFL QB. I haven't heard much about him since. Opinions??

I don't know if Moore has "it" yet, but we won't know unless he becomes the starter. As has been stated, "it" isn't about stats, it's about getting the job done while having your teammates believe in you. Big Ben of the Steelers has "it". Jake used to, i'm not sure he still does, only time will tell. I agree with the opinion that Moore is a project, but any and EVERY QB brought in is going to be as well, regardless of what they've done in the past. It all depends on how well they learn the system, develop chemistry with the other offensive players, get along with the coaches, etc, etc. Joe Montana had some success with KC when he went there, but they still didn't win a championship!

I believe Moore is as good as a candidate as there is available to be given a fair shot at taking over the offensive reigns. Drafting a QB and developing him (which, for all intents and purposes means STARTING him) will take 2 to 3 years, by which time some of our present offensive personnel may be gone or at least beyond their primes. Any decision has an element of risk. I say stick with the devil we know...

"It", to me, is a high level of talent. I think he will be nothing more than "decent" and I'll gladly eat crow on that. And I'd HOPE our team responded to our QB. Good grief. That proves nothing.

And for the record, I don't think Jake has "it" either. But he's a good Qb and he's done really well here.

Who do I think has "it"? Brady, P. Manning, Big Ben, Palmer, Rivers, McNabb, Brees, Warner...and maybe Aaron Rodgers. That's it. If you think Moore is as good as they are, or can be, more power to you.

I don't understand ehy so many people are overlooking Josh McCown. He is mobile for his size(kinda like Big Ben), and even though he has been in the league for 7 years has never really played with a decent offense and\or team. His stats do not reflect the player that he is, IMO. Wasn't he poised to be the starter for Miami before Pennington showed up? If so, he had to impress Parcells and the HC for him to be the starter

Palmer is in the unfortunate state of playing for a horrible coach and a horrible team. His stats are still very good though, and I can only imagine what he would do if he played for a better team. Palmer QBs a team of thugs, immature children, and complete idiots. Don't blame him for their faulty play. He does his part.

Too early to tell but if he's not the future, the staff has effd up. The future needs to be in our system already IMO. Of course if this keeps up the system may change altogether as early as next year.

Well, if that's the sole criteria, I guess Ryan Leaf, Heath Schuler, Matt Leinhart, and a whole alew of others who have been drafted but didn't amount to much (admittedly, the book is still out on Leinhart, he's quite young) had to have failed for another reason. I think ANYBODY, regardless of position but especially QB, has to show a high degree of basic talent to be even considered for a roster spot on any team in the NFL.

I think that any number of criteria contribute to a player having, or getting, "it". Jim Plunkett of the Raiders was a great example. Drafted high out of Stanford after winning the Heisman, he didn't have much success until well into his career after switching teams. With them he had good but not great stats (his overall stats for his career resulted in far more ints than TDs), but he ended up leading the Raiders to 2 Super Bowl wins.

The QB prospects are tested repeatedly on a host of standardized criteria, but NOBODY ever knows what a QB will do until he plays consistently, i.e., starts. Tony Romo is another great example. He certainly seemed to appear that he has "it", but as time and games have rolled on, that may be in doubt. I believe he has shown to have a high level of talent, his teammates seemed to rally around him when he won the starter job, but they haven't benn able to win the playoff games with him. And we know what a disaster this season was for the Cowboys. "It" denotes much more than just 'talent', it is more about positive, results related leadership.

Common Misconceptions about Matt Moore:

1. His stats don't tell the story, quit using them to justify general things. He came in garbage time in a lot of games and threw a couple picks. But you need to take something out of those picks. It shows he's fearless, he's trying to win, he's confident in himself to make throws he probably shouldn't make.

2. Using his preseason games is a joke. Sorry, but in Preseason you saw him play against 2nd and 3rd stringers with 2nd and 3rd stringer supporting cast. Give him Muhsin Muhammed, Steve Smith, DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart and you migh"

3. the "it" factor is just a "wow" factor. It is what it is. How impressive he is, how he carries himself, his "swagger" (lol i had to), etc. But ultimately it describes the innate ability to win.

4. For those of you saying that Matt Moore was easily ignored by 31 other teams have to realize that each team has its own needs. Matt Moore wasn't a high reward guy. The dude was older than all the other guys too since he got drafted into Baseball for a bit.

5. Last but not least, for those wanting Cassell. You gotta realize he is a system QB, he may or may not be as successful in our system. The Patriots system is designed to find ways to use the passing game to attack the holes in a defense. You often see wide open guys in that team. They all have YAC ability. That team is built for the offense it uses.

Just like Kurt Warner from St Louis to NYG. Same with Marc Bulger, ever since Mike Martz left, he hasn't earned his contract. Cassell can still fail. Sometimes you gotta look past the big names .

Talent on the big stage, my friend. Not as a Cougar, Vol, or Trojan. And I'm aware leadership is a big role, and all those "it" guys I mentioned earlier have it. With talent and success comes trust and responsibility. Just because you're a good leader doesn't mean you'll be successful in the NFL. But if you have a high level of talent, and are successful...all eyes are on you and you have to be the damn man. That's why Palmer is trapped in Cinci. He has the skills, can lead the team...but without the success, his leadership means little.

I'll be happy if Moore can do it...but right now he's just a kid who in my eyes is not a sure thing...like other backups in NFL past have been.

So if Moore or Baz was the QB of the Pats last season, you feel confident they would have had the same similar season Cassel did? System or no system, without damn good skills you'll fail. The Patriots coaches are not Gods...stop treating them as such. Baz would have failed in NE, Moore would've actually been good, but not as good as Cassel was. Why is everyone afraid to admit Cassel is a damn good QB? You DON'T have to want him here. You can love on Jake all ya want and hope Moore works out. That's great. But stop doing a disservice to Cassel because he played under "the world's best system that could work with a damn girl scout as the QB".
